In the old VFL model that was capped at 15, the left overs went to the VFL reserves teams

I still don't really understand if they don't qualify they shouldn't be able to play. Crows made the afl finals last year their reserves didn't so the players couldn't play anywhere anyway. If Sturt, Eagles, or anyone else dont have a reserves side in the finals, there's nowhere for their league fringe or coming back from injury players to play.
Capping the players at 14 is a good start.

This won't get through as Power and Crows won't want any sort of cap, and it's all about what the Crows and Power want.

Let's see if the SANFL and six clubs stand up for the first time. I think it's fair to give the afl clubs the option.

Take it or join the amateurs.

If you want them out then there is only one way for it to happen.

If the SANFL are to say **** of to the AFL sides then the SANFL is going to have to walk away from them completely. This means away from the SMA and adelaide oval. That would make them completely independent of the AFL and the AFL sides.

I cant see that happening as the $$$ are just too great.

The key to this, as JIm05 alluded to before, is to have a set of clear finals rules. No point capping the minor round if the AFL sides can get permits for finals matches to circumvent the system.

I sort of share Mic's view that the real powerbrokers in this debate don't want any capping and will argue against it, so I hope the Essayeneffell clubs really put their foot down. Will be an interesting test, and a chance to see which clubs kowtow and which ones are or are continuing to fight for integrity.

As for my club, if given a chance to vote on a capping proposal, I wouldn't be surprised if they continued to kiss AFL arse and fall in line, sadly.

It would be 14 or 21 rounds LPH
Play each other either 2 or 3 times. 14 would be too short of a season

Like the idea of a SANFL Cup

while i think a player cap is a good start, i agree with the above, that alone is not enough to get me to return to the league. lets hope the cap is the thin end of the wedge and is just the first step on removing them all together.

Incorporate double headers into the season when the weather is best, start and end of season.

I don't see how the sma and Adelaide oval should be impacted. The agreements set up there were not contingent on there being afl reserves sides.

Bone McDermott in today’s rag “30K turned up to the SANFL Grand Final so this should silence any critics of the Crows and Power reserves sides”.

Uses the same simplistic logic as Guru Roo.

Uses the same simplistic logic as Guru Roo.

Brother Bone is a hard-working disciple of the Guru, and his role reflects his lack of mental acuity. He accepts his intellectual limitations, and gladly demonstrates this by continually speaking and writing in public.

His prime role is to assemble the Guru's banana lounge on hot days at the West Lakes Temple. Also, the Nineteenth Man regularly uses his face as an ashtray when important guests arrive. Unfortunately for Brother Bone, so does Brother Bone.
