Tell Jason Gillespie that ;)

Why? He wouldn't have been a permanent fixture in the whites, admittedly he wasn't too crash hot as a 16/17 year old, he was playing C's and D's when he started playing seniors, could swing the ball a mile but struggled in other aspects, gee did things change over the next 24 months, a great cricket story.

From his book he mostly played Whites in his final year of 16's. Granted he his the most successful Whites graduate as 3 years later he was playing First Class Cricket.

I'm sure there are other stories at other clubs with players going from Whites to play First or Second Grade.

Do you have his book?[/quote]
Yes. Although I'm relying on my memory for his 16 Whites Career. I'll check for you.

You could well be right although I do remember him training with the state 17's, we got a long pretty well and it would've only been from playing against each other, he was best mates with with Shane Maraun.

May aswell merge the two.

At least Eagles2014 is being honest.
Two examples over 30 years hardly is testament.
Heater, I'm sorry but I've seen the insides of District clubs, I know where the cash goes, as do many others, why the clubs are hanging on for dear life to the amount of teams they have, as well as their development squads for 11 + year olds that cost parents money & time.
It's no longer a big mystery.

Sorry but it's not all clubs that pay players! Clubs must identify talent and provide them with coaching, SANFL clubs do exactly the same thing to help select state teams. Pay ground staff to provide pitches (until SACA helped out that was pushing $50,000 for some clubs)

Where does the money go computer crashed?

I can only talk of the club I was involved with, but all players paid subs and the volunteers along with the players were responsible for raising funds to keep the club financially in order.

All extra cash/grants etc were used to improve facilities or pay coaches to help generate better cricketers.

Well that's at least 2 clubs that don't pay players....and they are the 2 clubs that according to SACA have the best retention rate of juniors into seniors.

West Torrens don't pay any players.

But we have lost many handy A Grade players (ex State players) near the end of their careers to our neighbour down the road, Grange Cricket Club in Adelaide Turf.

I don't blame the players at all though, they all gave great service for no financial reward, and although they could easily have kept playing A Grade, the offer of getting paid good money and no Sunday cricket, and 1 pm starts on Saturdays, was a no brainer for them.

U16 Whites is an absolute financial GOLDMINE for grade clubs

That's why they're all so well off financially with state of the art facilities and high paid coaches

Grade clubs curating fees are massive as well as mowing ovals. Throw in oval hire. Thats where a bulk of the money goes. Cant think of too many sports who have overheads like these.

Doesnt leave much to pay players.

It's no surprise that the clubs that ARE known to pay players have lower overheads for ground costs....

Looks like it's just the Jets and Port that don't have a 16 white team for round one. Lucky their playing each other this round.
Port also rumoured to be without a 14 whites team this round? Not sure why, I thought they had plenty of 14's.

Who wins the games this weekend? I think:

Kensi def PA
Bays def ET
Gullies def Uni
SD def Adelaide
WT def by Prospect
ND def by Sturt

Probably the only one that needs more than a moments thiught is the Gullies/Blacks game. No doubt there will probably be an upset in one of the games, my money would be on ND out on the goat track.

Yes he is, good reward for his excellent start to the season, made good runs for Southern Force, now a 1st Grade ton. Glenelg needed someone to step up without Alex Carey, looks like they have found him.

Five out of six, not too bad. Only away team to win was Sturt! Some pretty one sided games by the look of scores.

Here they go the mighty Eagle keyboard warriors in great early season form.
Just so we are clear, winning a cavalcade of junior premierships with players that go onto become C and D grade heroes isn't junior development.

Just for your info C Horse-
The following played 1st Grade for WTCC on Saturday vs Prospect and also came through the juniors at WTCC-
Smith, Fisher, Drew, Capel, Kelly, I Johnson, S Johnson, Williams, Hahn - 9 out of 11
Can't comment on GCC list but would be interested to know how many from juniors were in your 1st grade this week end.
Also, it's not C and D grade any more. Time to move on!
Luck is where opportunity meets preparation

Premier league has been a bit of a fizzer this year with all the washouts. Not much you can do about that though I guess.

Looks like quite a few new faces around the grade line ups. A few English players, a few interstaters. Good to see Tom O'Connell take four wickets. Leggie/batter from Sturt with some wraps on him. Was that his debut? The Blues with a three-pronged spin attack!
