Yeah you would presume it would almost become an unworkable relationship.

Can I please have a $1 for every time in 2017 we hear the words 'we have a professional work relationship etc'

I'm very surprised that Port didn't get rid of Hartlett

From my understanding, it comes from the ex of power player who to our amusement has become one of ports better players since the split that the seed of doubt in the Hartlett Boak situation had certainly split friendship groups and could be felt at club functions etc

Ball is in his court.
He also signed a five year deal two years ago. We just indicated that contracts mean something at Princes Park.

They tried but no one wanted him and his long term over priced contract.

Worst thing that could happen would be he plays at Glenelg next year.
Sturt, on the other hand are a very attractive destination for players, :D

Mrs Gibbs might be devo but Bryce will be fine.

Well, it was pressure from his missus wanting to go home that caused all this wasn't it?

Yeah but that's enough to make me devo.

That's where I thought Gibbs might have come into it

The teams with the long contracts have seemed to be burnt this year during the trade period

Ryan O'Keefe in 2008.

Yeah, but O'Keefe was out of contract. He ended up getting a better deal too!

Sat out a year and the GWS were generous enough to trade him this year with 1 year left on his contract.

You did, but you didn't match it with the best midfields in the game when it mattered most. Geelong, Sydney and West Coast* all exposed you when it was the business end of the season and you've depleted the midfield, didn't even tread water.

*West Coast have a solid, if unassuming midfield and baked you at home.

I thought it was our forward line that let us down in those games.
We also have a solid, if unassuming midfield and baked West Coast at Subi earlier in the year. Also baked Port twice this year, sometimes a midfield is just on & sometimes a midfield fails. Crows are no orphans in that area.

Disapointing not to get Gibbs, but glad we didn't fall into the trap of paying more than he'd have been worth to us. Plenty of improvement in the side still IMHO, even with Lyons moving on. What I don't get is Carlton's position. Fair enough to hang onto a contracted player, but I reckon even a straight swap for pick 13 helps them more than keeping him. Are they really thinking they'll be chasing a toop 4 berth in the next couple of years? If not, why would you prefer a 30 year old Gibbs to a 21 year old pick 13 from what is reported to be a solid and deep draft? Let along the extra price the Crows were willing to pay.

Will be very interesting to see where Gibbs goes from here. Obviously he's obliged to see out his contract but if the Mrs is that keen to go home how will she look at another 3 years in Vic? Not sure whether they have kids (or will in the near future) but this could get real tough real quick for them.

Wouldn't be surprised if the flak Carlton have copped from their fans over Bett's 2 years (Jacobs too) at the Crows meant they were either going to get heavy overs, or show their faithful they took a tough stance. All politics would be my guess.
