Agreed it would have been a stupid trade. But some people are saying the way the Crows announced it was what the failure.

Did we actually announce it though. Just did a quick Google search (albeit on my phone) & the oldest post I could see was Adelaide were tight lipped about it & refused to comment.

Yes, they announced it. One day it was rumour, next Reid was speaking to the press.

You know how when a crows supporter goes on the no AFL in the SANFL thread & gets told he "just doesn't get it". This is a case of you just don't get it.

...and the only reason Carlton drove such a hard bargain was out of bitterness.

So a rumour was announced & then the crows had a press conference saying they won't comment on it.

Well if you agree it's what every other club does, you're just strengthening Carlton's assertion that the Crows didn't follow protocol.
The press conference was basically the Crows saying that yes, they had spoken to Gibbs and he had expressed a desire to go home.
Not the information you hand out to the press when the club that player is contracted to still hasn't made an announcement.

So are you saying it would have been better for the Crows to lie & say they hadn't talked to Gibbs, which is probably what the other clubs would have done so I guess you're right that we did it differently. Did Gibbs' management contact the crows first or was it the other way around. If you think clubs don't talk to contracted players then you are very naive.
When was the Reid press conference.

In my uneducated opinion they should simply have continued discussions with Carlton and not spoken to the media. If asked directly about Gibbs they could've spun any number of standard replies without having to lie. If they're not capable then they need serious media / communications training.
I have no idea about who contacted who, we'll possibly find that out in time.
Reid's press conference was on the Monday about two weeks back. I heard the interesting bits replayed on MMM at about 4:30.

The first reports I can find of Gibbs wanting to move back to Adelaide were on September 29 ,over 3 weeks ago.

They would've been having discussions well before that.

Yeah, my guess is they were having discussions, then Reid spilled the beans to the media.
My guess is they did this to pressure Carlton. More than likely public opinion would have come down on the side of the player wishing to return home. That's my take on it anyway. By sticking to their guns Carlton have virtually negated any future use of that tactic.
It could be as Cracka has suggested, the Crows just didn't know what to say to the media, the dramatic reaction from the Blues to that turn of events would suggest this was a mistake.

I don't think Justin Reid is at all to blame but I think someone else in the organisation will be getting their knuckles rapped as the Crows rep amongst other clubs isn't great which influences them at trade time.

I honestly don't think the crows do things any different than any other club. Maybe it's just that because there's only 2 teams in SA we hear about it a lot more. When I was driving to Melbourne twice a week I'd read the Herald Sun & would see reports of the Melbourne clubs doing the same things as the crows & no one on here batting an eyelid.

They do things differently big time, quite well known around the traps. As I said before though none of the blame lies with Justin Reid, if I was simply Crows bashing I wouldn't admit that, I quite admire Justin and the work he's done, I'd have him at Geelong any day.

There might be some truth in that Cracka. I look forward to hearing the details, if they emerge, over the coming year.

Gee when I was working and a showdown went down and the times when Power won in that work place if you followed port you'd be smiling every hour on the hour the Monday after the win from 7am until 2 pm the port song was played full volume

So I think in this state your port or you hate port
Channel 7 and Foxtel play that god awful port add all the time
And they wonder why non port people won't follow them

Oh and back to a showdown the Monday after the crows win once only once would the song be played unless the big boss was in never allowed to play

I think it's more spoken about because of dicks the likes of McDermott, Jarman and Cornes.

Jarman says the crows get a pass mark for this trade period and port get a fail. Simply how?

Cornes gives the crows 4 for the period and Port 2. Again how?

I'm obviously a power man but the Crows lost a player and gained none. Yes, Port didn't gain or lose a player but have ended up with 4 picks in the top 31 in what's known as a very strong draft. Unless I've missed something.

Port wanted to trade, everyone knows that but couldn't get a suiter for Lobbe and Mainly Hartlett, Who knows this could be a wake up call for Gartlett but, No-one has any idea on the discussions that take place between clubs. So when idiots so 'oh they just sat there' etc etc please!
