Redbacks 16/17

Postby Lightning McQueen » Fri Oct 28, 2016 9:44 am

Just thought I'd start a thread dedicated to Redback news and opinions.

Things are looking promising from the outset with one of the tougher assignments seemingly out of the way with.

I did question why we would've elected to bowl first in a twilight match as it seems as though sending a team in late on day one is a bit of a norm, doesn't matter now I guess.

Highlight of the match for me is Tom Cooper, I'd love to see this fella have a great year.

Really? That's very handy

Was worried Sayers and Worrall would get bowled into the ground. Don't want to cook them too early.

Love the way they do this whenever possible now. All the "cricket was better in my day" fuddy duddies love to tell us how bowlers don't play enough cricket but they seemed to always want the next best fast bowler sitting in the rooms when they were running the show.

Mennie didn't do a lot in this match, Sayers stole the show!

Team for game against NSW starting Monday to be named today, vital game as winner clear 2nd on ladder going into BBL Break.

My guess at team:

Weatherald
Raphael
Ferguson (Capt)
Lehmann
Cooper
Ross
Carey
Mennie
Andrews
Richardson
Sayers

Ross to replace Head, Andrews to replace Zampa, and Raphael to replace Smith.

Would prefer they play 4 quicks as Andrews bowling garbage this year, but without Head to bowl some part time spin, they may need that option, and Cormack is a one day bowler too, so absolutely no options for spin which is a worry.

You would hope they don't go back to Raphael. Had multiple opportunities and failed each time. One of those who is to good for grade cricket but not good enough at first class level. Reckon Smith deserves another chance.

Last season was Raphael's most successful season at First Class level. From memory he scored over 300 runs batting at 3 when Ferguson went down.

Raphael would be the safe option at the top of the order. I hope they stick with Smith though. There's only one more Shield game before the BBL break. They've backed him in this far, surely one more game? If he gets runs he's away, if he misses again can probably rule a line through him for now.

I thought he was angry at himself and showed anger before the decision was made.
That said, he plead guilty so there must have been something in it.
