I'll pay that one, I realized just as I posted it.

It was a major attraction knowing she wasn't into cricket, I needed that.

Good to see Cam Mansueto pick up a 5 wicket haul including a hat-trick for R&C on the weekend. He's worked pretty hard over the winter to resurrect the club.

With 4x of their Grade 1 side the other season back (Mansueto, Quick, Millard, Simpson) they'll be a tough side to beat in Grade 3.

Congratulations on Les Kosonen playing his 350th game recently for Central United , and he is 60 years old !
Les has played for CU since 1990, previous to that he played Adelaide Independent Association for Suburban Districts
Ive faced Les when playing against him in his Suburban Districts days , with his bowling mates Glenn, Golding Hamilton and Finlayson
Les had this great ability to swing a cricket ball about 40 years ago ! , and probably still does

Well done Les

A few handy recruits at Smithfield in the past week will see them breeze through Grade 3 and build on something for the future.

Who?

Ian Williamson, Nugget Morris and Chris Knapp.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Tuckers head out there either too for some cameo's when he's in town, they had already picked up Luke Dunn prior to the season starting and some other lad who I hear is a handy bowler.

Good luck with that,
2 of them came out 4 weeks ago and signed up with Central United only to be denied a clearance due to money owed to EP.
Hopefully for Smithfield they've now paid up the money.
looks like there taking the soft option of an easy premiership in Grade 3 instead of playing Grade 1 at the Units.

Maybe Smithfield are gonna fork out the $$ - huge pick ups for Grade 3 if they want go that way.

Would've been good inclusions for Units, would think that would've increased the Units finals chances this year significantly.

Did Ray Ray Smith sign up at Units though?

The clearance's have gone through already and they are close mates with some of the Smithfield players and have been almost signed out there in previous years.
They would've been handy additions to the young exciting Central United side and no doubt the Units would've been more consistent with them as on their day they can be the most dangerous team in Grade 1.
I wonder if it's too late for Smithfield and Two Wells to swap places as I'm wondering if Two Wells will complete the season as they've fallen in an absolute heap after a solid day one of round one.

I thought Ray Ray was heading down by the Riverside.

Smithfield would not have paid for them to go, the club itself generally doesn't help cricket out too much given the lack of money that comes back by way of patronage during summer months.

Reckon it could be a waste of money by Smithfield if they have in fact paid the clearances especially the amounts I heard.

EP has a new president and his number 1 agenda item is to have cricket back there next season, absolutely no doubt 2 of them will go straight back to EP as that's already been talked about

Who is the new president?

Once players leave and begin to enjoy a new culture, it's often very hard to coax them back, Smithfield does provide a very good atmosphere to play cricket at, sitting under the pergola waiting to bat and then sinking a couple under there post match are some of my fondest cricket memories, they know how to enjoy a premiership too.

I know Eastern Park have a great bond amongst their playing group but they've severely lacked direction in the past which probably stems from the sporting body not wanting to give the cricket the support it needs to be successful at Grade 1 level, on paper they've been good enough.

New president is Gilly, played lots and lots of lower grade cricket at EP and was a Saturday regular on the pepper tree. From my understanding it's the first time in over 10 years it hasn't been Billy Wells, Damo Griffiths or Lindsay Lawrence who all in their own rights did very good jobs with the club

No doubt Smithfield provides a great atmosphere with cricket but I know personally there is already talk of a mass return to Eastern Park and the potential for a club cricket legend who is extremely well respected by the young lads returning as coach next year (and no it's not me lol)
