I'm a fan, but Head does not deserve a Test yet.

If I was Pete Hanscomb and a bloke with less 1st class runs and a worse average (Head) got a baggy green before me, I'd be F***ing pissed off!!!

Did forget about Handscomb lol

To a small degree I blame the fact that Cricket Australia base our summer around the T20 big bash

HAHA! I was literally about to post the same thing!

Start with Matador Cup, squeeze in stuff all SS games before tests start, so you've got a nice block for the BBL. Everything in CA revolves now around Big Bash and T20 cricket - it's no wonder our blokes struggle to bat longer than an hour!

All the batsman should play Shield on Thursday, except Smith.

Patterson in for Voges definitely.

Any of Handscombe, Bancroft, Maddinson, Wade, Maxwell, Weatherald, Head, Lehmann hit a century in this round of cricket they come in for consideration to replace Burns or Ferguson for Adelaide.

Would be people be happy to see us scrap the matador cup if it meant we could play a bit extra first class cricket

I'd be happy if it went back to the old format of playing a SS game followed by a LO game over the course of the season, instead of playing games in blocks.

Don't think Weatherald and Lehmann are ready at all, same probably for Head.

Think Kurtis Patterson is the one they should blood.

Happy with Bancroft or Handscomb as well, both been consistent for extended time.

I would open with Khawaja, and get rid of Burns, and Voges gone also.

^This so much.
Start the Shield games on Wednesday and play through to Saturday and then the LO game on Sunday

It's not just the way we structure our summer, in real terms it's the talent we have on offer at the top level.

Besides Warner, Smith and Starc how many of our current Test squad and those budding for Test match selection are truly world class cricketers? We can barely justify bringing someone up from Shield level. We all have an opinion in here but we can't agree on who is next in, all we can agree on is that it needs to be someone new, young, with a future.

We might be over complicating things with the way we go about the summer, then again we might just have such a dearth of talent at this point that it wouldn't matter how we went about programming the summer.

Maybe the talent isn't there because the pathway is getting more demanding?

Also we are doing nothing to develop "test cricketers" at a younger age - everything is built around the limited overs formats - from Milo T20 blast, right through to national championships... it's no more batting time, or bowling lengthy spells, it's get in as a bowler and limit damage, and get in as a batsman and inflict as much damage as quickly as possible.
