Farcical decision from the SAAFL regarding the Rosewater players wanting to leave.. 4 game suspension and a $200 fine. Yet it is only 1 game if they stay. Absolute joke. Over a photo that neither player posted on social media. Get a grip SAAFL

Maybe it's the player that posted the photo is the one that needs to get a grip on reality.....

Were they in the photo though? (haven't looked at the clearances so I have no idea)

As a guess, I’d say they're protecting the club from being gutted by players who don’t want to accept responsibility for their actions. Why should the club be left with the fine?

So what if they stay, serve their one match suspension next year then leave?

That's not in question. That I agree with. Neither of these players posted the photo. They were a part of it but had no say or idea it would be posted with that caption. How you can give 4 games for that? Ive seen less for near on assault on a footy field. The player who posted the photo I can understand the league coming down on.

I get they don't want a club to be gutted, but neither players have been suspended or even reported in the past. 0 suspensions or reports between them, what actions are they taking responsibility for exactly? A photo that was posted without there knowledge?

So now the league is stopping people from getting a clearance out of that environment because the club might be gutted? How about all resgistred players names just get put in a barrel and the league tells you we're your playing?

I often laugh at what going to a private school can do for one.

The league is losing control for mine.
It's not right for them to apply different penalties if you stay or go.
It's not right for them to block clearances.

But what's really alarming is the recent communication they sent out to all clubs basically asking clubs to threaten players who want to transfer to another league saying we wont let you back in for upto 5 years. That's a joke and to be honest if it ever got challenged I'm not sure it would hold up.

Jimmy, interested to hear your thoughts given you've often been playing the card "the SAAFL get more players than we loose" and "the SAAFL aren't worried about players leaving".

These latest actions from HQ certainly go against that mantra!

^^^ if there was a uniform salary cap across all leagues there wouldn't be a need for the player embargo

(which was approved by the majority of clubs)

It's never been about numbers of players, it's the rest of the CFL failing to live up to their side of the TPPS bargain

Set a more reasonable figure and I'm sure everyone would of been on board.
Also no reason for the points system if there is a salary cap, has to be one or the other

What Q & Jo said
The CFL were contractually bound to force the other leagues to comply with what they agreed to do for next season
They reneged so we have merely done what we threatened to do

Just as aside, did you know the BL&G have a rule that you can't recruit from within the BL&G? So, using your R&Rs to protect your interests does have a precedent.
As for legal action; have a go. I'm sure you'll find out why it wouldn't work. Alternatively, declare your payment as a salary and you might have a better chance. After all, the $$$$$ aren't the important thing; are they?

Should be points and no cap.
Points can be regulated and be open and transparent with little cause for problems depending on how the points system is set up, but money finds itself in the intended direction in many varying ways outside of the club's ledgers via any number of parties.
