Will Chad get a run or will they stay with Bird??

Bird will stay

Makes Sense to play him this Day/Night test then Melbourne or Syd. Will not get better conditions. I think the issue is more so where they bowl him. Has to take new ball to get full benifit of his skill set and with Hazelwood taking wickets for fun ATM, I'm don't think they will want to take the new rock off him.

What more does Sayers have to do though?

Bird is similar to sayers in that he is a traditional new ball bowler, so it can be done

They have to pick the Chad. His haul in this Shield match should get him across the line with a pink ball Test coming up.

If they are going to reward batsman for form at shield level they have to do the same for the bowlers.

Surely they've got to reward performance and consistency!?! How much more does Sayers need to do to get a crack?

This is like Grade Cricket to Shield all over again! So what he's not 7ft tall and doesnt throw down 150kph thunderbolts so he doesn't fit the demographic for a test cricketer?! CA are pompous arrogant f**ks

I agree they should pick Sayers

Is tough though to drop a bloke with a bowling average of 25 who took a five fa in one of his last two tests

With bowlers coming out of ears it's hard to fit them all in, He could be the Jamie Siddons of this era but like Siddons, who do you drop so he gets a game.

FWIW with 3 tests in 23 days he probably should get a run this test with one of Starc or Hazelwood to possibly miss

If only SAyers was producing these numbers as a batsman.

Golden rule of elite sport though, it's not fair
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Take out his 5/59, and the 4/41 in his 2nd test v Sri Lanka and it's not the greatest reading. Economy isn't that great either.

Last few innings working from most recent backwards:
1/54
2/57
5/59
2/66
1/51
0/52
0/67

If Sayers was dropped 2 tests after taking a five fa this site would go into meltdown, look at the ferg meltdown

Sayers might not take wickets straight up - but i'm sure he'd be tighter than Bird.

Also dont think Ferg deserved his selection in the first place, and he hasnt dont anything since.

But yes, you are right

Justin Langer to coach Australia in a T20 series against Sri Lanka while Lehmann is in India preparing for Test series.

First step to taking over full time?

_________________________________________________

Warriors mentor to fill in for national coach Lehmann for T20I series next February
Western Australia coach Justin Langer will take the helm of Australia’s T20 team next February while Darren Lehmann and the Test side prepare for the first Test in India. Langer will take charge for the three KFC T20 INTLs against Sri Lanka starting in Melbourne on February 17 before moving to Geelong (Feb 19) and Adelaide (Feb 22), with the final match to be played the day before Australia’s opening Test against India in Pune. The 46-year-old filled in for Lehmann this winter for Australia’s one-day international tri-series in the Caribbean while the full-time coach had a break after a hectic period in the top job and now gets another opportunity in the game’s shortest format. Under Langer, Australia beat the West Indies and South Africa to win the triangular ODI series, peaking at the right end of the tournament to crush the hosts by 58 runs in the final.

While the former Australia batsman had plenty of success at Test level as a player, in the role as coach he’s found great success in T20 cricket having guided the Perth Scorchers to three KFC big Bash League finals and back-to-back titles in 2013-14 and 2014-15. "I thoroughly enjoyed the experience of working with the national side in the Caribbean earlier this year and so I am excited and very grateful to get this opportunity to do it again, this time with the Twenty20 International squad against Sri Lanka," Langer said. "Twenty20 International cricket is the one format in which Australia is yet to win a global tournament so every chance we get to play it and develop our skills is very significant. That means these three matches will be hugely important. "The advantage myself and the players will have is that the series will come just over two weeks after the KFC Big Bash League wraps up so we should all still be in Twenty20 mode. "And with several senior players set to be in India ahead of the Test series, it really will give players an added incentive to perform in the upcoming KFC BBL to put their names forward for selection in the Sri Lanka series. "Thanks to the officials at the Western Australia Cricket Association for giving me the chance to take on this challenge and thanks, too, to Cricket Australia for having faith in me to do it."

That's how T20 should be treated. Different coach and none of the test players available for it

Agreed. Separate coach and separate CA contracts IMO.
If you want to play test cricket and ODI's then forfeit playing T20's IMO while doing so. If money is the driving factor than CA should just pay them an extra mill a year to keep them from playing T20 cricket.

Australia batting first in the third ODI. No change to Australia's team for this match. Neesham and Henry out, Nicholls and Furguson in for NZ.
