I'm all for this comp but that was one of the worst games of footy I have ever seen. This includes C5 games.

I'm with you - first game I've watched
Bloke next to me on the x trainer at the gym was laughing as I kept saying pick the f***ing thing up
Our D Grade would smash them

As a consequence, I think an AFLW side would have trouble beating a D1R side................

Can't question the endeavour and the commitment but the skills were horrible.

Need smaller grounds. The game will not survive long term if losing teams (and include winning teams in this example) kick 1-2 goals a game consistently. I say consistently as it is happening at least once a week.

It was a watchable game don't get me wrong and the players who picked it up cleanly or hacked it forward when they couldn't were no surprise the best players on the ground. The amount of times someone jumped on a ground footy when all they had to do was tap it 5 metres to a team mate was ridiculous.

^ This.

I don't understand why, having conceded with ball size, they'd then go and put these games on a full-size oval.
They made the right decision with the ball, not the ovals. I think changing oval size would have an immense impact on the standard of the footy.

I also agree about the 'hacking it forward' comments. And...let's not talk about Perkins. A player who can't chase an opponent or run the other way wouldn't be accepted in any other standard of the game, particularly 'elite'.
People also comment on the 'amazing' attack on the ball and the player, I wonder how much of that is actually clumsiness, running past the ball because the players aren't reading it or a general lack of spatial awareness.

Smaller ovals, players who have grown up with the game, more development of skills and a fluidity of motion amongst the players (rather than players standing over the ball to pick it up) will see this game improve immensely over the next couple of years.

Is it even possible to shorten the ovals without putting in mini league style portable goals at one end?

Personally I don't see that as being an issue. The scoring is likely to always be lower in the women's league and will pick up as the skill level improves.

Watched my first game of chicks footy (Adel v Carlton) .. Im a bit out of the loop here, so perhaps repeating what others have said. The intensity and commitment of players toward ball and body was top notch and couldn't be questioned in any way, shape or form. The skills obviously were well below par for what traditional footy lovers would hope to see. As someone said to me the other day "imagine what the blokes skills were like when the game started in the 1800's" - Fair call, hopefully the skill level increases over the years. Found it enjoyable enough to watch for the most part - Not my cup of tea to follow religiously, but good luck to the girls, great that ALL girls have a level they can aspire to.

Good on Jay to get on the bandwagon and give another $275,000 on top of the same amount last year to the corporation: Adelaide Football Club Ltd to boost its profit, sorry; "its female focussed grassroots football and schools programs"
http://www.afc.com.au/news/2017-02-19/s ... mens-footy

Too bad they have never contributed any funding, despite many requests, to the actual grassroots competition (ie) the SAWFL
Neither the SA Govt nor the SANFL wanted anything to do with SAWFL until now
Good of the SAAFL to take it over and run it when no-one else wanted it

I enjoy watching the women's footy. OK, the skills aren't great but these chicks absolutely crack in. I was watching a JLT and saw blokes running around playing February footy which is really, 'get fit but don't get hurt' and then the women smashing the shit out of each other with plenty of sneaky snipes along the way just quietly. I think women's footy can get better and at the moment it's harder than what the blokes are trotting out at the moment. The blokes aren't warmed up yet but the women are already playing for keeps.

Maybe as someone who has never played I'm not so harsh on the women's footy as those who have suited up for their ammo sides.

regards,

Remember, they're playing with 16 on the field and 35-metres is considered to be a booming goal.

If high scoring is the only measure of the games intensity and entertainment value then there's plenty of stuff printed in the Sunday Mail during winter that wouldn't be worth watching.

I've never said it is the only measure. Nor have I said it's not worth watching - there is room for constructive discussion about the league.
For the record, most of the stuff in the Sunday Mail isn't being described as 'elite'.
