Another blow to midfield stocks. Injury luck used up last year

Personally it's terrible timing for the lad who looked to just have an opening to grab a spot ( Thompson's ) and it's put Adelaide's already documented midfield depth under further pressure.

It's probably given Thommo and/or Douglas another 15 games each to add to their tally.
Not the best start to the season with the injury count ffs.

I think they can apply for a permit for him to play, much like what happened last September.

Swings and round abouts hey.

Trading Lyon for peanuts doesn't look so good now.

Unfortunately you can't foresee injuries and Carlton being stubborn
Gold Coast. Will struggle to play consistent AFL football up there also.

Gold Coast

the numbers i head were 350 compared to 250 (though these are like third hand so obviously take that with a grain of salt)

So i dont really blame him for leaving.

And i dont blame the crows for not giving him that cash. Especially when we had players like Milera running around in the reserves ready for a game that could take his spot

With CEY out now and the delayed start from Sloane a few blokes will get more opportunities or in worst case you need to get a bit more out of Douglas and Thompson this season that you anticipated.

However that puts a bigger load and expectation on M.Crouch. And B.Crouch really needs to get and stay on the park.

What I am saying is that Lyons would be handy right about now and probably Grigg as well.

From this morning's Advertiser:

Adelaide records $1,464,450 profit as it makes changes to its board

ADELAIDE is in the black again — with a $1,464,450 profit — and is strengthening its financial power with a significant change in the board room.

Inaugural Crows player, Andrew Payze, on Thursday night ended a record 17-year term on the Adelaide board, opening a vacancy to co-opt Bendigo Bank chief financial officer Richard Fennell.

The Crows on Thursday night — after having its annual general meeting with the AFL in a board session at Adelaide Oval — told a group of 50 members at an information session in the McLachlan Room at the Oval:

RECORD revenue of $48.3 million built on unprecedented sponsorship deals.

RECORD average attendances at home and membership that, by the club’s count, reached 67,874 last season.

RECORD investment in the football program that has now is measured across three teams — in the AFL, SANFL and the new AFLW national women’s league.

PROFIT was down $300,000 on last year’s mark as a result of the sponsorship payments lost after the collapse of kit supplier, BLK.

Chairman Rob Chapman told the membership the Adelaide Football Club’s off-field metrics made the Crows was the No.1 club in Australia, not just the AFL.

“And I am extremely proud of that,” he said.

Payze, 50, closes an impressive resume of service at West Lakes. He played 14 games in Adelaide’s first two seasons in the national league — between a significant SANFL career with West Torrens and the Eagles.

He joined the Crows board in 2000, using his football experience on Adelaide’s list-management committee and business acumen on the club’s professional standards and integrity committee.

Fennell steps up from serving at committee level at West Lakes since 2014 to become a club director with far-ranging financial credentials.

He has worked for Pricewaterhouse Coopers in Asia and Australia developing his resume as management consultant. He joined the Adelaide-Bendigo Bank — a Crows’ sponsor — in 2007.

Fennell was introduced to the membership on Thursday night with Chapman saying: “Richard is an experienced business leader who brings passion and a vast array of skills gleaned from the finance sector in Australia and overseas.”

Fennell’s agenda is: “I will use my range of personal and professional experiences gained here in Adelaide and abroad to help make the club the best it can be.”

Chapman paid tribute to Payze’s dedication to the club saying: “Andrew’s contribution as a player and then director is nothing short of extraordinary and he has helped steer the club through good times and bad.

“He may be leaving an official role, but Andrew will always be part of the Crows family.”

Crows coach Don Pyke, who starts his second season in charge at Adelaide, told the members he had “inherited a resilient, talented group (of players) driven to be the best they can be”.

“That is all I can ask for as a coach,” Pyke said. “And we’ve got improvement in us.”
