Look out when he get cleaner with his disposal, very good get by Port.
No disrespect to Ridley who we picked up at pick 22 but our recruiting team were shattered when he fell to you guys as he had been in our sights for awhile.

Interesting to hear the speech given when SPP was getting his guernsey presented to him.

Apparently we first watched him play live in the WAFL in June last year, and after that game our recruiting team begun formulating a trade strategy to ensure we had a chance to get him to the club along with Marshall.

The WCE board on BigFooty are spewing they went with Venables ahead of him.

Yeah, I was listening to a podcast of our recruiters and once WC took Venables our intel seemed to indicate you guys would grab him but we were hoping he would slip through to us. We had him rated in the pick 6-14 range

What role would he play for you? Bloke who averages around a dozen disposals and less than 2 goals a game..

Wing/ half forward. Reckon he has more upside than Polec

Cameron on the weekend is what I had in mind :)

Gotta get SPP into my combined team too, that kid is a gun.

Settle Gretel, can quite easily turn it around this week against a hapless Freo at home.

Swans were very sluggish, but full credit to port! Thank god Buddy was playing because it would have been much work

What's up with Hanners? Get back on the grog for **** sake cos I've got you in my supercoach side. Don't give a shit about the $wans and their annual finals pass, just want to avoid relegation from Hogg Premier. LIFT.

Will post a review when not on my phone.

Bit late, but....

Port kicked off the season with a very pleasant unexpected win over the Swans in Sydney. Nobody would have given Port a chance against the Swans in Sydney, haven't won there for 10 years, until Saturday.

How? Well, it all began in the middle with Paddy Ryder being the most welcome of additions to the Port Adelaide midfield, with another lad who made a big impression.

Ryder's 1st quarter and his hit outs to advantage being the most important on the small SCG where Wines, Ebert and Boak got the ball forward quickly to Dixon one on one with Grundy, Dixon marked and goaled which had Grundy nervous, Grundy infringed in the next contest for Dixon to goal again and all of a sudden the Port forward line looked dangerous, because of the midfield.

Wines was, and is, huge. He might be ready to go to the genuine A grade level in the competition if he can just clean up some of his disposal, but his ball winning and clearance ability are second to none. With the addition of Rising Star nominee Sam Powell-Pepper and Ebert in the middle Port could afford to leave Boak and Polec outside to create run and carry, and they did.

Defensively Clurey was having a hard time with Franklin, Hombsch was struggling with Reid and it looked like Sydney were ready to take control, but something changed in the third quarter. Tom Jonas had been holding Tippett out of the game, not the toughest task when Kurt is in skirt mode, this gave Jonas the chance to drop off Tippett and head to Reid as the third man and Franklin had to get mobile up the ground taking him away from the goal front. Port now had control.

Sam Gray, Hartlett, Broadbent, the cool headed Houston and Amon got some quality touches during the 3rd and Port made the most of their clean disposal. HOORAY! Hitting targets! Now Dixon was being held ( if his 2.3 was 4.1 it would have been due reward ), but that gave space to Wingard who drifted in for two goals in 10 minutes late in the third after a run in the middle.

For mine, Ryder, Wines, Jonas, Polec, Boak, Powell-Pepper and Ebert were our best and the most pleasing aspect of the game was seeing a ruckman winning the ball in the air and around the ground, Polec carrying the ball and delivering, Boak getting reward for his effort and Wines showing he's going to be hard to beat for the ball at ground level.

Port supporters would be well pleased with their effort. Ryder makes them look so much better too. As long as they don't drop games like the Freo one coming up they are definitely a top 8 side.

And I continue to be amazed at the Kurt Tippett footballing journey. He will end up doing commercials or something, because he gives every indication he's not up for it and his team mates are going to tell him to get fugged soon enough if they haven't already
