In an interview with Crows coach Heath Younie on FIVEE aa SANFL Show in 2014 he mentioned under the new structure many of their younger kids just recruited to the club were getting "bashed around" by having to start their AFL journey at SANFL league level and they had to manage their game time until they became physically stronger.

Worth remembering that under the old system, the host clubs would send AFL-listed players to the reserves when necessary. Back then the AFL clubs - and particularly the smears - would grizzle that their players needed to be fielded in the league ranks for their own development, and would force these players to transfer club in order to achieve this.

So the Eagles host the Ravens tomorrow afternoon while at the same time the AFL big boys are in action. Think this has happened a few times at Elizabeth. Are clubs now less concerned about attracting the Ravens' 'supporters' so are opting to keep games in their preferred time slot? Do you have any insight into this PhilH?

Good point. The crows don't have a following in the SANFL so why not play the game. at that time. Port on the other hand are at Alberton on Sunday. They are maximising their crowd as the PPAPs play on Saturday evening at AO. They can also maximise ALF content in the SANFL side.I am not sure how Sturt agreed to I. I can recall last season the PAPs encouraging their supporters to watch a game against SA rather than go Noarlunga as the AFL followed.

Bluebagger supporters must be nervous ! Running into Port at Alberton with a strong side and staring 0-4 in the face.

Might work in their favour though, in similar circumstances last year Centrals played one of their best games for the year, assisted I suspect by Port relaxing somewhat with a loaded side and thinking they just had to turn up.

Dogs fans equally nervous BTW - facing a 1-4 scenario with a loss tomorrow!!
Players win touches, Teams win matches, Clubs win Premierships.

Saintal, the Eagles fixturing for 2017 was requested after I left.

On one hand - no Crows supporters would be expected playing at virtually same time (1 hour apart)
- many Eagles fans who are also Crows fans might choose to stay home watch Crows on TV, Eagles on Digital Pass.

On other hand - Eagles have on field bonus as Crows short one AFL listed player as travelling emergency (would be back for Sunday game)
- Better turn up post match bar & meals on Saturdays than Sundays

or no one noticed the clash until this week.

That said, I have come to an arrangement with the club to organise the annual carnival event for the Sun Aug 20 Eagles v Crows game,
Planning a BIG one. Stay tuned.

I'll be there and also watching the Crow in the club. This would have been an ideal Sunday match. Go the Eags.

Wasn't this the reason why the Crows wanted a reserves side in the SANFL, rather than the amateurs etc.? Something about wanted their younger players to play against the big bodies...

But Jim! Where on Earth do you expect the AFL reserves to practice THEN?
