Doesn't mean much this year though.

It will if they miss the finals again...

Glad Chad isn't playing. He's done well against us in the past.

Not often I agree with Rucci but he is bang on with this one

http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/sport/afl/expert-opinion/michelangelo-rucci/michelangelo-rucci-asks-what-hope-do-the-afl-umpires-have-when-clearcut-rules-are-the-ones-fans-want-to-turn-grey/news-story/d84561cd2683e0f10f1bd16d5208f2cc

"
WHAT a silly game this AFL is.

On Saturday night, field umpire Curtis Deboy made a subjective call on Richmond defender Jayden Short deliberating rushing a behind in the last seconds of the second term.

Tigers coach Damien Hardwick graciously excused Deboy, but only after declaring the former SANFL umpire had made a mistake.

Yet, Essendon coach John Worsfold was endorsing the free kick that gave Bombers small forward Josh Green a goal — and Essendon the lead — on the halftime siren at the MCG.

Was this a rushed behind?

It was a subjective call based on that grey area of “the defender being under pressure”.

If there is a public poll on this incident, there will be a split vote. Silly game.

On Thursday night, field umpire Jacob Mollison made a precise call on Port Adelaide key forward Charlie Dixon in a set shot at goal in the last three minutes at Kardinia Park.

Dixon had 30 seconds to start his run to the mark. He took 34. Mollison called “play on”. Perfect. A rule with no grey area was applied as written, even though the game’s old guard want to fashion into the accurate read of 30 seconds with a silly subjective subclause of “the spirit of the game”.

The meltdown since also has been silly.

Port Adelaide fans are tying themselves up in knots over side issues such as 10m exclusion zones, when the 30-second shot clock starts, who runs the clock (that was applied accurately), how long Dixon was on the ground (by his actions not those of Geelong defender Lachie Henderson) before he took his kick and where the Cats’ three alert guards positioned themselves on the mark.

Hopefully, these Power fans were also watching the Gold Coast-Melbourne game on Saturday at Alice Springs where the same moment unfolded with Tom Lynch lining up a set shot, Melbourne midfielder Jack Viney running behind Lynch to take a spot at the goalfront and ... Lynch scoring a goal because he started taking his shot within 30 seconds. No drama.

Those Port Adelaide fans who went into a social media Showdown with Crows supporters last year after field umpire Troy Pannell worked a 17-1 free-kick count for the Western Bulldogs against Adelaide have just found the front grill of the karma bus.

It is a silly game. There is a witch hunt on the umpiring when there are questions to be asked that were in Port Adelaide’s control.

Why is key forward Justin Westhoff lacking confidence with set shots? Who was guarding Brownlow Medallist Patrick Dangerfield at the decisive play with 93 seconds to play when the Geelong midfield duo known as “Dangerwood” — Joel Selwood and Dangerfield — grafted the winning play? Where was Darcy Bryne-Jones’ smother on Dangerfield’s kick?

Umpire Mollison made the perfect call and is being lynched. The Power players made several errors and are excused from a public review.

Silly game this AFL."

Quite possibly the best thing Rooch has ever typed.

Umpires have such a little influence on a game of footy compared to the players, yet guess who the scapegoats are to the masses?

Good coverage of the Power's Indigenous program in the paper today and great to read Keith Thomas's comments and ongoing support and understanding of the projects which are fantastic.
Never thought I'd say this but here's a quote for someone's signature, well done Port and well done Rucci for his coverage of their programs.

Mate, head down to Alberton over the next few days and what they do is truly amazing, my step-daughter is involved with an indigenous program going on there at the moment and I can't praise their work enough.

If you're free over the next few days ( lol ) head down to Alberton. The Aboriginal Power Cup draws some big crowds and always plenty of atmosphere. I'll call in when I'm done later to have a look.
