Shout out to Hendo and the lads from Houghton.. Been involved in sides that get pumped, it's not easy, and I've seen plenty sides get pumped and it's easy for the standard of decorum drop rapidly, but the Raiders lads pressed on all day and never once dropped their heads or lowered themselves to cheap shots or thuggery like I've seen happen too frequently in the past.

Thought despite the score line it was played in fairly good spirits, Houghton umpire was good and you could see patches that showed the Raiders were in fact a more improved side that last year. Their general endeveour, tackling pressure and overall foot skills were far better than last season. Unfortunately they just lack the depth and fitness at the moment to seriously press the top sides, but if they end up in D7R next season I'd think they'd be a genuine contender.

I heard Andy Rogers was a smart man.. well I have my concerns over that claim after he chose to run around in the warmer weather wearing a bloody long sleeve!

I predicted a while back West Croydon would miss the 5, I still believe that'll happen.

Wouldn't discount Trinity OS out of making it though.

Although Fitzroy have begun ramping up, they were fortunate to have a softer back end of the first 9, should do more than enough to make the 5 and given current form may well give Elizabeth a decent crack in a few weeks - that'll better shed light on where they're at.

Ingle Farm have struggled with injuries, hopefully changes back half and can make a charge - next round vs Brahma looms as a massive clash for both in the scheme of their seasons.

It'll be interesting to see how clubs manage their sides over the colder months to set themselves up.

The top 5 teams atm will be the top 5 at the end of season. The order may change as I reckon Fitzroy are coming big time and Ingle Farm will make a strong run in the back half. Brahma Lodge would be filthy about dropping a game to Salisbury West and that could cost them they double chance.

As for anyone getting within 5 goals of Pulteney of course someone will. It might even be next weekend with Fitzroy the pre season flag favourites starting to show the form everyone was expecting. Elizabeth is the interesting team having smashed all teams until the last 3 weeks. Maybe they have plenty out or maybe they are flat track bullies. Not sure who the coach is at TOS but I do know he is a dead set flog and as for their goal umpire well the league should do something about that bloke it's not even bordering on ridiculous its a disgrace.

Steve Couzner is the coach at TOS. Very well respected from his time at Salisbury, and is doing a wonderful job with a young group at Trinity. Very astute knowledge of the game, and likes to challenge himself by taking on A grade jobs rather than sandbag B grade premierships

The goal umpire is a dead horse that's been flogged enough. Volunteers don't grow on trees

Perhaps not but if you have someone continually tarnishing your club's good name maybe you should move him on.

To have any discussion on a goal umpire is wasted bandwidth and after so long it does become a club issue, it's not a hard job and it is obvious when it's being abused.

Im sure that's something the committee are working on LM. If the biggest gripe that people (that matter) have with TOS is the goal umpire then I think the club is in a pretty good spot. I've been witness to a lot of the incidents people complain about him on here and in all honesty they should have a look in there own backyards before they get on there high horses about a goal umpire..

I hope that's the last time I have to say it, but I get the feeling it wont be

Steve Couzner would have to be one of the most respected people in the amateur league.
I think the expression reflects more poorly on Oldman than it does on Steve.

I know where you're coming from and I have heard nothing but great things about TOS since their inception, it has the potential to become ugly if there's a season defining decision that is blatantly incorrect.

You're right though, every club has dirty laundry stashed somewhere.

Dunno where you heard that I was smart. Terrible sources. I already told you too....the more I sweat, the more weight I lose. In theory that also means I can drink more beer after.

Felipe Massa-esque size and talent. Lacked millions of dollars unfortunately.

Well done to Ingle Farm. Our biggest positive from the weekend was the ability to fill sides after having such a massive list unavailable. Not an excuse on the day though. IF were far, far better in every aspect and could challenge any side on their day.

Yeh lets hope it doesn't come to that. The main crux of the problems is if he makes what the players think is an incorrect decision, he fires back rather than just shutting up. To say he is a cheat would be a fabrication, I know our players have had as many disagreements as the opposition, its just opposition clubs notice it because they aren't used to it, where our players just roll there eyes and move on.. Do I wish we had a mute button for him? My word. But its a delicate situation which people outside of the club don't know full details of and the constant pot shots are quite often unfair, hence my defence of the whole situation..

I spy for Round 9 something beginning with....
Elizabeth - 3rd consecutive loss in the A grade, but still missing Shepherd and looking over the A/B grade sides it appears a number of players missing at the moment. For the B grade to still get the win with so many changes shows how strong their depth is as well.

Brahma Lodge - Pretty ballsy move dropping your best player to the magoos to send a message - be interesting to see if it gets the desired result. Heard he wasn't too impressed, but after initially talking about walking has picked up his dummy and agreed to be more committed to the cause.. Huge win for the 1s, still got McIntyre to come back in too, building nicely. Their B grade are beginning to look dangerous as well, and very nearly knocked off Elizabeth which would've been huge. Massive Round 10 coming up.

Houghton - The Raiders despite scores would appear to be a growing club. given the ability to cover so many 'Outs' at the weekend and still field 2x full sides - perhaps a C grade in future for them? No Schutz, Hall, Oswald, Underdown, Furnell, Ferrall, Kolisnyk, Clarke, Jay Szabo is always going to make life hard. Q works tirelessly - can almost hear the air being squeezed out of the ball with every mark.. and Tyson Roling cant kick to save his life.

Ingle Farm - From 2-0 to 2-4 now turn 5-4, Farmers finally enjoying having players available. Scoreline flattered by playing an undermanned Houghton, but you do what you must. No Finch, Rigney, Bryant, Sandery, Bone, Hancock, Dellar means it'll be an interesting selection in a fortnights time. Interesting to see Lachlan Sandercock return to the IFFC through the B grade Saturday too, and Todd Keogh in the C grade :-k

Fitzroy - This is the most potent forward line in the division with the greatest variation. They have the best draw in the division to close out the season with SW, HD, ML and WC as their last 4 games - awesome platform to launch into finals. Their B grade are improving, winning games, but won't play finals i'm afraid - left too little too late, and results are flattered by the soft month they've had. Think they'll win 5 more games for the season, finish on 8 wins with a poor percentage, not enough to get in.

West Croydon - Another loss in the A grade, with Turner, Palmer, Harding, Wilson all in the side - looks pretty much as strong as it's been.. but i see Emery, Bottrell and Campbell lurking in the B grade - could they have made a difference or they too interested in playing against former coach Arch? When do you reward effort and performance? Liebhardt 7 games, 5 times in the best. Robinson 9 games, 6 times in best.. A grade need to tidy up the percentage as well as win to figure in the 5 - in a 3 way battle i think with IF and TOS.

Trinity OS - New coach, new game plan, already won as many games as last season. Notice MacPhail was back on the weekend.. but they were missing Peters, Hooker, Collyns and Ah Matt. Add those in and it's a pretty potent side - potent enough to beat Elizabeth after the break. They're best placed to make the 5 at the moment i think. Their B grade scare me, i know HT doesn't agree but they're the dark horse of the reserves. They're a former premiership winning team, flying under the radar and doing just enough.. but starting to get some depth in there - Barraclough, Perry, Lamont, Siciliano, Palmer, Hennessy, Eves, Roberts, Hill - all guys who are very good, and a lot who have played regular A grade footy. Add in Kreig when available and Lemmon who was missing, it's worrying signs for oppositions sides.

Pulteney - D6 and D6R premiers. Congrats.

Salisbury West - Very nearly choked after leading by 20 points at 3/4 time. Would've been the upset of the season. Appears the Tigers are goneski. How long will Milera and Kelly stick around? I also notice their B grade had their result from Round 8 over turned.. for playing an unregistered, uncleared, suspended player  Is that the dumbest piece of administration from a club ever? That over turned result effectively ends their finals hopes, now sitting 3x wins outside the 5.

Mawson Lakes - McCammon gone back to Kilburn, Keast gone to USA.. They're stuffed. D7 next year - if they can survive that long.
