I would have B. Grose in the team of the year before Ward, Bourke and McMurtrie. He gets his 25+ touches a game plus 10 tackles. He would be top 2 with Hooters in our best and fairest count.

Also on ruckman Gannell was my toughest opponent to date.

Now in their 3rd season in Divsion 6, Brahma Lodge know what is required to take the next step and progress out of this division. Interestingly, their first half of the season is almost identical to the same stage last year, where they also had a 6-3 record but with a slightly improved percentage of 56.33%.

History shows Brahma Lodge improved over the second half of last year, winning 7 of their last 9 games to finish 3rd after the minor round before being bundled out by eventual premier Woodville South in the penultimate round of the finals.

Despite off season rumours of players leaving, the Tigers have maintained a majority of their guns while adding extra A grade depth with McIntyre, Grose, Wright, Fuller and Steele the most noticeable of their signings. It wasn't just the A grade whose depth was bolstered, as the acquisitions of Nick Hall, Phil Hall, Adam Freeman and Stephen Forbes along with the return of Brent Marshall appeared to be the missing pieces of the puzzle for the powerful Tigers B grade lineup.

Darrell McIntyre has been a revelation up forward for Brahma. Replacing the centurion goal kicker Tim Aloisi, McIntyre has kicked a staggering 46 goals in 7 appearances to lead the Lodge attack. With strong bodied midfielder Dylan Brooks (13 goals) and crumbing goal sneak Shane Cosenza (11 goals) regularly hitting the scoreboard, the Tigers appear a far more potent attack up forward.

Ben Grose has arguably been the most valuable this season, with the dynamic midfielders defensive game and pressure provided as much as asset as his ability to win the contested ball and break free at stoppages. Amongst the best players in a staggering 63% of the matches he's played he's provided great support to the other ball magnet midfielder Dene Steele, who also features among the Lodge best with regularity.

Burchall, Huitema and DenEngelse provide a potent dimension transitioning from defence to attack across half back.

A sound draw to close out the season, the last 3 weeks shape as the most challenging and dangerous with West Croydon and Elizabeth away, and Pulteney home. The outcome of these three weeks will determine whether they can snatch a double chance, or slide down the pecking order, but a comfortable month leading into that block against Salisbury West, Houghton Districts and Mawson Lakes will ensure finals are a certainty.

If they can fire on their day, no reason why the Tigers can't go one step better this season and book a ticket out of D6 in 2018.

Much like the A grade, the are almost identically positioned as the same time last year with a 6-3 record. Unfortunately last season, unlike the A grade, the B grade fell away over the later part of the season - losing 3 of their last 4 games before being bundled out in straight sets of the finals for the second consecutive year.

A more potent combination of players this season holds them in good stead. Despite using 47 players already this year, the Tigers have been able to continue to get the job done and are well positioned heading into the break.

Recruit Adam Freeman has proven difficult to stop up forward when available, with the big full forward kicking 19 goals from just 5 appearances. Fellow recruit Kaine Arbon has also provided headaches for opposition sides, with the clever half forward hitting the scoreboard on 17 occasions.

29 individual goal kickers this season shows the depth of the Brahma Lodge lineup, and their potency in front of goals.

It's no surprise that veteran Daniel Hickey is rated their most valuable so far this seasons. The experienced A grade midfielder has played 6 games and been amongst their best on 4 of those occasions, and won games almost single handedly at times. Chris Gehlken and Matt Leigh across half back have proven as valuable as ever also.

Kurtis Smith has returned to medal winning form, and with Jason Marshall, Daniel Nicholson and Quinton Taylor are proving vital cogs in the Tigers arsenal. Strong combination of youth and experience, and boasting one of the best backlines in the competition the Tigers have all the ingredients to go all the way this season. Evidence of their backline ability can be seen in the last round, where they restricted the high scoring Elizabeth to 1.2 in the 1st quarter, and kept them scoreless in the 3rd!

They'll be hard to beat over the back half, and a top 3 spot beckons.

Coming down from Division 5, Elizabeth announced themselves in a big way to start the season in Round 1, smashing Trinity OS by a whopping 137 points, to send shock-waves through the rest of the comp. From there the wins continued to be frequent, but the margins not as alarming as the Eagles coasted their way to 6-0 after defeating West Croydon away from home by 46 points.

Since then, Elizabeth have been shaken violently out of their honeymoon state, dropping 3 games in a row to find themselves holding onto second thanks to the percentage accrued in Round 1, and only one win clear of 6th placed Trinity OS.

The return of Darryl Cotter has paid dividends, with the sharp shooting full forward kicking 31 goals so far this season. Along with Jacob Shephard who has 17 goals, the two have led the Eagles attack with aplomb, while a myriad of midfielders have also managed to contribute to the goals to share the work load.

The most valuable so far is a tough one, but hard to go past Austin Reeves, who along with 5 performances in the best players had attributed 6 goals to the cause. Jhye McConnell and Brad Mitchell have also had outstanding seasons, while defender Jordan Stewart can hold claims to being one of the best in the comp at the moment.

Arguably the best draw in the back half, the Eagles travel to Gawler to face Trinity OS before returning home to tackle the in form Fitzroy, then an away game to Salisbury West is followed by a run of 3 home games against weaker opponents, before the difficulty ramps up again heading into finals.

They may have stumbled in recent weeks, but the draw allows them greater flexibility heading towards finals and an ability to build up and hit the major round at full tilt. Their best has shown is as good as most if not all, and anything shy of a Grand Final berth would be seen as a disappointment.

The B grade have beaten all before them over the first 9 rounds of the season to sit clear at the top of the ladder, and well positioned to lock down that minor premiership.

A side that has an incredible combination of youth, leg speed, size and experience, the Eagles have proven to be a difficult side to counter each week, and their massive scores show their true attacking potency at its fullest.

Ben Clark has been largely unstoppable out of full forward with 42 goals, while Jamie Quirk has had the luxury of the second defender, allowing him to kick 28 goals. Big Pete Furber across Centre Half Forward may have only 14 goals this season, but his ability to be a target, create a contest and allow the crumbers to work off him have proven more valuable than the goals he's kicked himself.

Austin Bailey has been given the nod as most valuable with his 4x in best players and 3 goals, while rotund midfielder Jamie McCafferty could have legitimate claims to that title with 5 appearances in the best and 6 majors.

The experience of Daniel Glenie setting them up, along with the blistering speed of Sam Harrison and athleticism of ruckman Jack Callander are all integral parts of this squad, but the true unsung heroes and back bone of this side lie in Brett Watts, Ryan Hollamby, Brayden Thom and Dylan Maslin who have proven impenetrable down back, while providing explosive transition from defense to attack.

An abundance of left footers adds to the Eagles arsenal and having only used 37 players this season - the lowest in the division - they're a well balanced and settled line up.

With the C grade sitting equal top in C6, the depth is there, and it's hard to see anything less than a Grand Final appearance coming for these blokes in the blue and gold.

Largely the talk of the off season with their massive recruitment drive, which has seen the resurrection of a C grade and U18 side, Fitzroy had high hopes heading into this year after a disappointing 2016. This time last season, the Roys only had 2 wins to their name, and thanks to a better second half of the year and most importantly defeating Mawson Lakes in the second last minor round, Fitzroy were able to salvage some respectability.

Despite finishing half a game outside the 5 last year, given their poor percentage of 42.06%, a loss to Mawson Lakes in Round 17 would've seen them relegated in 2017 instead of Mitchell Park.

Since then they've set about taking action to get themselves in a position to challenge for a flag, and turning at the halfway point 6-3 is a good start. more remarkable given they lost their first 3 games!

Recruit Anton Gerardis has been strong in front of goals, with the strong built full forward kicking 31 goals so far this season. Returning midfield/forward Chad Bourke has been an integral support for Gerardis, kicking 28 goals which includes an incredible 17 goals in his past 3 outings.

With Chris Beaty (21 goals), Daniel Pigliacelli (11 goals) and Mark Roberts (9 goals), the Fitzroy lineup is full of goal kicking power, and difficult to match up on.

Chad Bourke has been the most valuable so far for the Roys, as mentioned the midfield/forward has managed 28 goals, 17 in the past 3 games, and on 6x occasions has figured amongst the best players. A smart footballer with a gift for reading the play, Bourke has been the catalyst for the Royvolution over the past 6 weeks, and a large part of there success. Luke Scicluna has enjoyed his combination with Bourke, also figuring in the best 6 times for the Roys, while fellow midfield/forward Chris Beaty has been arguably the find of the year for the Roys - with 21 goals and 5 appearances amongst the best.

Luke Cooper, Pat Skeer and Wyatt MacKinnon have also had outstanding seasons down back for the Lions.

Difficult month block coming up for Fitzroy, with away games to Pulteney, Elizabeth and Trinity OS and a home game to Brahma Lodge. They could potentially drop all 4 of those games, and with Ingle Farm after that block it wont get much easier.

A favorable last 4 game block to close the season will have the Roys hopefully of being able to set themselves, and launch into a top 5 spot, but their season largely rests on the next 4 weeks.

With Bourke, Beaty and Scicluna likely to get closer attention over the next 9 rounds, Gerardis and Pigliacelli may be starved of adequate opportunities up forward to impact the game, and that may prove the difference.

Given the large number of recruits this season, the B grade would've been optimistic of their chances heading into the season. Although results haven't gone as expected, the first half of the season could and should be viewed as a success internally still.

The first tick was coach Anthony Lennon's ability able to surround himself with reliable and hard working support staff during the off season, that was followed up with the Lions managing 3 wins in the opening 9 rounds - 2 more than they managed for the entire season last year, and one less than they managed for the entire 2015.

Add onto that the fact they've surprisingly used the equal second least amount of players this season, and there are plenty of positives down at Fitzroy.

A regular target up forward has been difficult to find, with Nick Capasso and Mark Karvelis making the most of their chances out of the goal square, kicking 8 goals each so far this season. Kicking a winning score proving to be a thorn in the development of the Lions.

Captain David Palmer has been the most valuable for the Roys. The experienced midfielder has constantly battled hard for his side, and the coaches have rewarded that as he fills the best players on 6 of the 8 games he has played. Underrated fullback Greg Stotter has also been superb, while Ross McArdle, Daniel Soppitt and the shadow Lachlan Wild would also be among the better and more consistent performers for the Lions, and would be figuring prominently in the Best and Fairest count.

A work in progress, they wont play finals this season, but can expect to claim a handful of scalps over the back half of the season and set themselves up for a crack in 2018.

A victory in Round 18, 2016 saw the Raiders manage to avoid relegation in following their first season back in Division 6. Work was done over the off season to consolidate their position and push forward towards finals.

A new experienced coaching staff was appointed, a new leadership group entrusted and the general feel was the Raiders were on the right path.

Unfortunately that is where the good news stopped for Houghton, as the club was rocked on the eve of Round 1 with the departure of the newly appointed captain. Nathan Hall assumed the reigns, and led his side forward, and moved on with the season, only to be rocked a few weeks later, this time with the coach parting ways with the club.

Once again Houghton picked up the pieces and pressed on, but despite competitive performances in patches remain without a win and planted to the bottom of the ladder. Interesting to note, that the Raiders have used the second least number of players this season also.

Dave Keetch has been been the best in front of goals for the Raiders, with the defender turn midfielder turn forward kicking 14 goals so far this season, 11 of which have come in the past 3 games and including a 6 goal haul against Ingle Farm. Thomas Almond (10 goals) and Jai McMurtrie (9 goals) are the only other players to hit the scoreboard with any degree of regularity.

Jai McMurtrie has also been in Houghtons best players 7 times out of the 8 games he has played, and with his 9 goals has proven to be the most valuable so far this season. Another player who can stake claims to that title is Cam Schutz. The athletic ruckman works hard for Houghton, regularly giving his on-ball brigade first crack. Jordan Salerno and Matt Cluse are also having strong seasons, while Gabe Burden and Ben Turner continue to be ever reliable down back, often facing countless inside 50 entries and dealing with dangerous opposition forwards.

It's hard to see where their wins can come from after the break, but will enter Round 10 with confidence and hope against Mawson Lakes - this will be their Grand Final, and potentially their last win in Division 6 for a couple of seasons, with relegation looking almost a formality.

Like the A grade, the Houghton B grade had a change in coaching personnel over the summer, with experienced Ian Henderson taking the helm, and setting about making the Raiders magoos a more competitive outfit.

Unlike the A grade, their season couldn't have started any better, equaling the number of wins they had for the entire 2016 in the opening 2 rounds. Since then, they've struggled with consistency, player availability and the gap that still remains with the bench mark sides above, but have still managed to double their win count to go into the break with 4 wins.

Where the A grade has used the second least amount of players, the B grade has been the opposite, with 48 players donning the brown and gold over the opening half of the year

Chris Ferrall up forward burst onto the scene with 6 goals in his debut for the club, but only has managed 3 since then to take his tally to 9. Also on 9 goals is Michael Pennycuick, who has done so in a more consistent fashion. Pennycuick has kicked a return of 3 goals twice, and 2 goals once.

Pennycuick could argue he's the most valuable player over the first half, with his 9 goals and performing exceptionally well in 5 of his 8 games, however it's hard to go past the tireless work of ruckman Rhett Glanville, and his work around the ground. Glanville competes hard in the ruck, and his work rate is as good as anyones. This has been recognised by the coaching staff who have given him the nod in the best players a staggering 7 out of the 8 games he's played.

Struggling for a consistent side has proven difficult, with only Adam Molloy, Andy Rogers, Sean Bird and Liam Holland playing all 9 games so far. It's also no surprise that group is amongst the better and more consistent players for the Raiders.

Like Fitzroy, this season can so far be marked as a success for the Raiders, they're playing a better standard of football, their skills have improved and their results are streets ahead of previous seasons. They wont play finals, but they can shape the outcome of the 5 and will be eager to add a few more to the win column by end of season.
