My question is how is a character reference relevant when you have video of the incident?

And why the f**k is our Prime Minister wasting his and our time going in to bat for a guy at a sporting tribunal?

These are the ones Id be punishing.

So, every player who holds onto an opponent should get suspended or fined? Your happy for blokes to knock out their opponent if they hold on?

If someone holds onto you your natural reaction is to swing your arm to get away from it. Its against the rules and if people learn to stop doing it after a couple of knocks to the chops because the umpires are too useless to pay it then so be it. Fix the cause, not the reaction.

I'm embarrassed for you

firstly, he was not let off. he got 2 weeks.
secondly, character references are used everyday at courts and tribunals. why are sports people not allowed to use them? agreed using the PM was a stretch though.

Because his charity work has nothing to do with him knocking someone out cold.

You think someone cant care about his community and still like knocking the odd bloke out?

What he did either side of that swing should have nothing to do with it.

Hes getting suspended from playing a game, not going to jail. Judge the incident in isolation, penalise him and move on.

I think the AFL are trying to create headlines above everything else.

Who cares if it was 'out of character'... if i speed in my car it is out of character, can i have my fine reduced please because i volunteer at the kids hospital amd deliver meals on wheels to elderly invalids?
If you swing your arm deliberately and clock him in the chops causing him to be knocked unconscious immediately then i dont care what your character is like, you are guilty and you deserve more than a paltry 2 weeks.

I think 2 weeks was spot on
its his word, but I agree his intent was to break the carltons player hold on his arm/shoulder. not contact with his jaw and knock him out.

I must've missed the part where the tribunal ran on the ground and punched Lamb in the head and knocked him out

He got let off lightly.
The tribunal ruled that it was intentional which carries a 3 week minimum ban but his sentence is the same as if it was graded by the MRP as careless, high impact, high contact.

And he has apologised, been remorseful and now has a penalty to serve...what more do you want?

Doesn't matter what his word is. The tribunal took under 5 minutes to decide it was intentional. Once it was ruled intentional it's a minimum 3 week ban with the AFL legal team pushing for 4 weeks. Character references shouldn't even enter the argument. Still a chance for the AFL to appeal the decision

How many weeks did Vickery get for hitting Cox in a ruck contest? 4 was is? Didn't even knock him out.

Concussions can be life changing.

Nothing Dutchy. Doesn't impact me or Carlton how many weeks he gets really. But he has an undeniably lenient penalty to serve.
Supporters of a club generally get their backs up when an opposition player KO's one of their own off the ball, so he should expect backlash for his hit-and-run.
