The balloon animal was courtesy of a (purposely)crap magic act we put on between bands. George looks a bit suss on the whole idea

Last pet I had when I was a kid was a dog named "Rover". "Rover" crapped so much in the backyard my Mum called the dogcatcher and told him we had a vicious dog at our house. Next thing you know I'm watching the dogcatcher catch him and take him away.

This was a few years after I was playing with our new puppy on my bed. I named this puppy "Puppy". "Puppy" fell off the bed and snapped his neck. My brother rushed in, scooped up his limp body and bolted. I'd completely blanked that bit out and for 23 years thought "Puppy" ran away.

By sheer fluke, my Mum found an old undeveloped roll of film. Got it developed and lo and behold, there's photos of me holding "Puppy". The moment was shattered by my sister. "Pity you killed him", she said. And that's when I found out "Puppy" didn't run away after all.

Another time we were cleaning out my pet budgie Shamus' cage. When it came time to put him back in the cage, we couldn't find him. Our search ended when I saw his little leg poking out of Whiskey's mouth. Whiskey was our pet cat. I have a permanent reminder of Whiskey thanks to the scar on my cheek after she scratched me when I was six. And also because she ate Shamus.

I don't have pets anymore.

Just on pets - a girl on facebook posted yesterday that there's nearly 100 cats & dogs at the handorf animal shelter waiting for adoption. If anyone is in the market for a pet, I'd encourage them to have a look:

The dogs on there aren't my cuppa tea TBH, and I'm allergic to cats so I'm out unfortunately.

BUMP

In about 2001 I lived in Melbourne and used to walk around the areas where I worked, North Melbourne, West Melbourne, Abbotsford, Fitzroy, Collingwood. There were a heap of people walking dogs and I fell in love with Pugs, simply from crossing paths with people who walked theirs.

Because I lived by myself in an apartment at the time, I couldn't get one as it wasn't fair on the dog.

Now I've got two kids 8 and 10, I've FINALLY managed to get my hands on one! And he's adorable.

He's 11 weeks old and has thrown the house into chaos but we wouldn't have it any other way.

Here's Max.
