Thanking you. Very interesting indeed, didn't realise it was based over the previous two seasons (not including current).

So a player could go from being zero points in season 2017 to being worth 2 points in 2018 despite playing at the same club in 2017 and 2018?

One suspects that this interpretation of the rules results in absurdities and as a basic rule of construction is incorrect.

My understanding is he is given his score when he transfers, which is based on the previous two seasons 2015 and 2016 in this case.
Come the start of 2018, they don't recalculate his points, but rather just roll over his current score, less 1 point for a season completed.

The issue is that the relevant rule is convoluted and riddled with internal inconsistencies that what they do and what the rule says should be done are often not the same thing.

To stick with the Glenunga example there are equally compelling arguments that Kane Cornes is worth 0 and 5 points which most would agree is a substantial variation.

The rule itself needs substantial re-drafting

Agreed, there are way too many unless, but, however, instead, etc in those rules.

Should be simple:
Where did you play the bulk of your games over the previous 2 seasons:
AFL - 5 points
SANFL - 4 points
Cat 1 leagues - 3 points
Cat 2 leagues - 2 points
B-grade or lower or under age - 0 points.

From there, each season that passes, you take 1 point off your score.
Once you've played 25 games for your club, you become a 0 pointer at the start of next season.

Rules about parents that were former life members but only granted life membership in the last two seasons, etc, all just confuse the matter.
Keep it simple so anyone can follow it!

Should be simpler but not that simple. Dont think there are Cat 2 leagues anymore. And there has to be some points for under ages that have played A grade footy and sanfl U18s not going back to their original club. I dont know why it's 2 seasons, perhaps just the previous season and the current season if it has commenced.

What I am getting at that surely there was a comment thrown in there to warrant a send off.

Sending a bloke off exactly for what you have said is a disgrace.

Mind you I played in an A Grade match where one of my team mates took 3 bounces down centre wing and got caught stone cold holding the ball. The umpire said he had no prior opportunity and a bloke from the opposition laughed and was then sent off. We all stopped the umpire following through with the decision after we all told him that it was the worst decision we had all seen ever in footy. Still laugh at it now and I reckon it comes up in conversation every time I drop in to the Tonsley or Marion for a couple...

Interesting story and slightly off story I know
It pi$$es me off no end in the AFL when someone has prior opportunity and gets tackled with no free kick .
So I checked the Rules of AFL and there is no more "prior opportunity" test in the rules anymore
Effectively, you have the same amount of time to dispose of the ball when you first get the ball and are tackled, compared to if you run, and bounce, the entire length of the ground and get tackled.

Thanks Z - very tough day for all involved at the Valleys.

Still trying to figure out how the hell we lost that game. For those playing at home, we were in front until about 5 minutes before the end of the game.

At least all the doggos enjoyed my treats

Yellow Cards ..... twice we have had a player sent off for being last in a melee .... funny thing is he was pulling his own player out ..... worst thing is earlier was given yellow for a high hit, even the opposition player said to the ump, it was accidental as he slipped .... now two weeks holiday ..... grrrrrrrr

Good to catch up FC, I thought you had it in the bag part way through the 4th but one thing Lockleys have had this year (minus the CBC game) is a never say die attitude. BTW, leading for 5 minutes wa pretty substantial compared to the Glenunga come from behind win.

....and yes, the dogs did love your cooking :)

I was there to the end, would have hung around for a while longer but the offer of a lift home to save me a 2 1/2 km walk seemed pretty good after 4 1/2 hours drinking ;)
