Yep the AFL apparently has a system of who they ask and this year they are up to the year 2000 winner in Mr J Hird.

Shannon Grant won in 99 and presented last year.....

Lance Armstrong will also be presenting the winner of the Tour de France his yellow jersey too.

Correct.

Grant presented last years as the 99 winner, McLeod did 2015 as both the 97 & 98 winner, Archer presented in 2014, Williams in 2013 and so on.

If Port were lucky enough to make the GF and win it, for the LOL's i'd love to see Ryder win the medal

I'm not sure 100,000 people booing on GF day is a great look, however..

The winning teams supporters doubt they will boo... Actually I hope it doesn't happen.

I can't stand what hird did and it is a bad look. BUT you can't say it's no surprise considering who has been giving them out the past few years

The recipient of the medal won't be booed. I'd imagine there will be a frosty reception when Hird is called to the dias, however..

I sort of understand this mentality, but I disagree for the most part.

Not wanting to engage in a debate surrounding the verdict for the Essendon 34, but any performance enhancing substances taken 5 years ago should not have any effect on the validity of their 2017 achievements.

As far as i'm concerned, the players have served their penalties and are now competing in this seasons competition fairly and legally (unless they test positive for something either this year or down the track). Should one of them win the Norm (highly unlikely in the first place), then prior infractions (especially infractions with no intent to cheat) shouldn't even be a thought.

Hate what Hird was involved with at Essendon, but for mine he's done enough time for his role in it all .. Happy for him to be judged on his actions, comments etc., moving forward now.

Im OK with it, but probably would have been best to leave it for another year or two, plenty of other non-public ways the AFL can show its support to him

Won't be an issue because none of the 34 will get the opportunity to win it.

It's not a matter of showing their support for him. It's his turn on the roster this year

Exactly, Hird had a distinguished playing career and has earn't the right to present that medal. His indiscretions are well documented but his punishment has been served, his mental battles are far worse than a few boo's, its time to move on by all and leave this stain behind. What better way than this IMO to acknowledge his footballing achievements and contribution to the game.
