You don't think making the last 4 of a 18 team comp is a reasonable achievement?

Not really.
Would rather win a flag and then miss finals for the next 10 years then constantly make finals and not win one

crows have lost 3 or 4 prelims since 98 and people are all too happy to claim that as a failure

(the difference is we were top two in all of those years so it really was a failure to only make a prelim)

for north it was an achievement but it was as far as they were getting in those years (the dogs last year was really out of the box)

Yep, and they outlined their strategic plan .. All reasonable stuff, but some of it you didn't need be an expert to include.

Imho:

%60 chance of getting Kelly
%5 chance of getting Dusty

Good to see them openly having a crack.

Will, or how long til, AFL player movement reaches the regularity of US Sports?

You're selling them lots of cash and no finals. Good luck.

History is on our side.

What I do like is that there doesn't seem to be any other suitors for Kelly at this stage, hopefully that means things are pretty serious with the Roos.

Everyone says Martin will most likely stay, but why wouldn;t he sign now if that was the case?

This is enough for some players, especially if they come back to their home state
In saying that, I think they've got no chance of getting either.

Martin is trying to milk a few extra $$ from Richmond and there are several Melbourne very serious about Kelly. Saints, Carlton and Essendon are just a few

Did Kelly not qualify for North under Father/Son, or was that voided by GWS' concessions at the time?

Yeah, you're right, that would be far more important than the future for a free agent.

Saints - Maybe
Carlton - No
Essendon - Certainly
North - No
GWS - Certainly

That's how I'd see Kelly's decision.

I thought there was already a bidding war for Kelly. With those clubs mentioned as thats why 9 year deals are being talked about.

Would have thought the Saints would be tough to beat to get him. They have cap room and also armed with good first round picks and look to be on the way up at.

Maybe its all about the money and North will win out. Cost a least a first rounder at the trade table.

Ridiculous. North have shown they're not that far away with so many close results this year.
We'll be guaranteed a soft draw next year and are due for a good run without so many injuries. (Port are a case in point, easier draw & no injuries, look at the difference it makes). We've blooded 9 debutants this year & have played all but 8 on our entire list. Short term pain. I expect a quick turnaround & hopefully a push for finals again next year.
