Disregard, just found the stats. Geelong were 5-1 against teams who were in the top 8 when they played them and that was over a month back. Can't be penalised for knocking sides out of the top 8 because you beat them especially with the quirks of the draw.
Geelong are 1-1 with the top side. Have drawn away to the 3rd side without Selwood, haven't played Sydney or Richmond (would have been kissed on the dick if we played Sydney early on) and are 1-0 against the 5th side. 7th and 8th is a rotating raffle.
So against the top 6 sides we've lost 1 game and that was to the top side at their home.

That's the stupid thing about this metric.

Port beat Sydney in Sydney but somehow that doesn't count because after *round 1* they obviously were not in the 8. So I don't think you can look it that granular...

What it does show is an overall trend, and that trend is Port struggle to beat opposition of quality. In the 8 or near it, whatever - it's an issue.

Geelong have been kissed on the dick.

By the umpires - Selwood every ******* game, Danger every ******* game, Dixon decison, Friday night
By the draw - soft for a side that made a prelim IMO
By flukey results - how many random arse less than one goal wins?
By the AFL - players ought to have been rubbed out or got light sentences.

Kissed. On. The. Dick. Couple of those things go against them and they're mid table.

But you make your own luck sometimes, have to wait and see if they can make the most of it. Personally I'd rather Adelaide win it.

they gotta have at least one victorian team up there, and geelong was the only one they thought they could get over the line this year.

Ahhh carn they're alright. Rory Sloane, Eddie Betts, Sam Jacobs are all rippers. Tex is a top bloke - albeit as sharp as a bowling ball. They're more likable than a whole bunch of teams IMO. GWS can get ******. Richmond can get ******. Geelong can get ******.

I don't buy into the whole Crows Port rivalry. I really don't.

For me it's

Port

<canyons of daylight>

Sydney (for the missus)

I dont know if its as deep as that and doubt the conspiracy theories but in all honesty its almost at an subconscious level with some it I reckon. Especially the off field decisions.

Melbourne might seem like a big city, but having lived there for 4 years, the football inner circle is actually really small. Everyone knows everyone. From the admin to the umpires to the supporters. Its incestual at times.

I honestly think this comes into it when these decisions get made. Not on purpose, I don't think its deliberate, but just human nature. I will never forget the day I walked into a cafe to buy lunch (I used to work in Jolimont, next to the MCG) and the Richmond lads were all in there. Not at all uncommon. Saw them all the time. However this time there was also some senior AFL administrators and a prominent umpire. Suffice to say everything was very friendly and cordial. They were all clearly mates. I said to my Richmond die hard grog squad mate - "this is why Adelaide people have a chip on their shoulder".

I also knew of senior administrators that played cricket with footballers and were good mates. People dating the daughters of executives etc

It's just natural really that the social epicenter of football is Melbourne, they all communicate at a deeper level than we do and the community would inherently favour itself.

I would much rather beat port in a grand final than see them struggle. The rest of the teams i dont really care about, as long as they play a decent brand of footy to watch. And if they play on a friday night its a decent game of footy. So I quite enjoy melbourne games this year. Carlton and Freo can get stuffed

Sounds like :

In - Hombsch, Pittard, Young, Amon
Out - Austin ( Omit ), Wingard ( inj ), White ( Omit ) and either Polec or Atley.

I'd like Monfries to get a run too, see what he can offer us up forward.

Ken must have the same selection policy as Woosha.

As if swapping out the bottom three fringeys on the flanks and pockets week in week out is going to dramatically alter anything.

Again, Ken has no respect for structure. Again, we will probably beat up on a weakened opponent. Again, Ken and his supporters will use that as justification for status quo. Again, we will go into a game against a strong opponent the week after with a poor structure. Again, we will get found out.

Pick a key forward for the love of god! Especially with Wingard out as Gray will move to the midfield and we'll be reliant on Young, Sam Gray, Impey, Trengove, a rotated midfielder and a poor Charlie Dixon to kick a winning score.

Lamborghini with the handbrake on.
