Adelaide Crows 2017

Talk on the national game

Heard a lot more talk aboout Lever, McGovern and Cameron. Crows offering virtually the same deals as interstate clubs but likely to lose them all.
Why is Adelaide's retention rate so poor?

Because they all want to go. Crows could play hard ball with Cameron as he has another year left on his contract.

I don't personally but influential people with connections to clubs, players and managers do. They're also confused about the Crows retention rate given in their opinion it's a well run club hence why I asked the question.

I dont think we actually do have a problem with retention. Bock and Davis got massive contracts that we were never going to match. Dangerfield wanted to go home for family/wife reasons.

Gunston is really the only one we could have kept but didnt

Fair enough. The Crows themselves admitted they had a problem with player retention in the past and did a full review because of it, I would think if they lose all 3 of these players while offering similar money then they may need to look at what they implemented/changed and re-review it.

the only report we have seen is that freo are offering double what the crows are. i dont believe that.

i agree that if we lose all three it needs to be looked at, but i dont reckon it will happen.

Once again fair enough, I agree if they lose all of them there's an issue and if they don't there isn't.

Obviously the recruiters know a hell of a lot more than me but if there was an issue Id look at drafting more South Aussies.
For eg if you had the no 9 pick the current policy is to choose the 9th best player in the draft, if I was Adelaide and a South Australian was rated the 11th best player in the draft I'd choose him instead. At the end of the day no 11 could be better than no 9 with a higher chance of retention.
Obviously there would be limitations, you wouldn't choose the no 25 ranked player with pick no 9. Just a slight tweak.

The Boyd deal with the Bulldogs has changed how contracts are offered. These kids are getting paid massive overs on potential...Gov more so than Lever. Clubs need to adapt or continue to trade them out for more 1st rd picks.

For the Crows, we are in the window and have to retain them to stay there.

Not sure what's happening with Cameron but don't think it's money with him but family. He's contracted next year.

I think it's more of a fall back from the introduction of GC and GWS.

This should be a big selling point.

The crows have the perfect age profile to contend for a few more years. There is <5 players on our list that you can say may go backwards in the next couple of years

But you still need to pay players what they are worth.

Given the lack of consistent rumours I doubt either of them have actually made their mind up yet

From what I have seen this year if you let Adelaide consistently hit 15 metre targets with handballs and short kicks then they will tear you to shreds. Has nothing to do with playing blokes behind the footy ect. Just need to stop them stringing 2-3 short passes together which leads them to hitting up the 30-35 metre pass.

forcing us to kick down the line to a contest is how we have been beaten. every team that we lost to has done it (except to north, they just blew us away early)

Charlie would be very unlikely to leave Eddie!

Why would you leave the AFC at the moment? Surely the possibility of success out weighs the want to go home? If they do leave, we will have cash to burn and will be able to lure good players who are interested in playing in a successful team, not just collecting a pay cheque at the end of each loss!
