Rookie mistake pal, everyone knows you need to see the blokes just outside the doors to the club with the eakies, I believe all the money from those sales goes to football club?

Yeah i did have a good chat with Matty after the game and he explained about his 150th. Felt sorry for the bloke as our game was stopped 10 minutes into the third and then finally called off half way thru the last and he didn't really get the send off he deserved.
Like you said ripping bloke but.

Nothing mate, bloke just got bumped as he kicked the footy and got knocked out and they didn't want to move him before a ambulance arrived. He is all good now which is the main thing.

It makes sense if you're running a social club from the 80s. As in, a lot of our administration is handled by the sports club - utilities, wages etc. We dont have any really huge expenses - other than strapping! The Sporting Club provide a facility and a bar manager for lots of different groups - from the tennis club to the dog club to the emu club to Wednesday arvo retiree bingo.

Many football people, myself included, see this as unfair, as those groups would not contribute as much money over the bar (the main and just about only source of revenue) as us. The football club is effectively subsidising those other clubs with our purchasing power. So thanks Box, those Johnnie Walkers meant Mavis and Sybil can turn the lights on tomorrow night for their Bridge card game.

The football club is therefore split into two schools of thought:

1. Being a community based club we should facilitate and subsidise these organisations as it increases revenue and in turn a more sustainable overall sporting club. It also creates more opportunities for grants from the Feds and Council as it's a bit more touchy feely.

2. The football club should be responsible for its own business model, including operating the bar during the season, in order to have full control over its revenue and expenses.

When you mix in that many prominent Parky people are community stalwarts and have feet in lots of these affiliates camps, then it gets real awkward real quick.

The bar turns over about $220k a year, if not more and *just* breaks even. When I looked at the MYOB database I calculated that football provides, conservatively, about 65% of that revenue. Approx 50% goes in employee costs - wages, insurance, annual leave, super etc. My very strong position is that for 6 months of the year during footy season that bar should be run using volunteers of the football club and the profits after costs of sales returned to the football club.

I'll do the math: (220*0.65)*0.5=71.5

In order for this to happen we require a significant cultural and social shift, which I have tried for years to initiate but ultimately, failed. We're working on it. The good news is the current off field administration gets it and change is slowly starting to become a reality. But it'll be slow and painful, no matter what.

What number have you tried to calculate?
Are you saying $71,500 would be the profit if the footy club ran the bar using volunteers?
Danny Southern telling Plugga he's fat, I'd like to see that!

Yes, Trader. Approximately.

Utility costs are covered in the other 50% Off The Wall

As I said, the bar breaks even. $220k in, $220k out. Just a tick over 100k on employee costs - this is on figures from a few years ago it could have changed.

If you propose to take the remaining profits, expect to pay more than just 50% then, as electricity, gas and water (Latter depending on council) usage is a lot higher for football seasons.

100k on employee costs is crazy! How many paid staff is there?

Yeah agree, and more for cost of sales and the like. The point was to highlight that there is a lot of purchasing power within the football club that is going towards things that aren't directly supporting the club.

Some might argue that they actually are because it fosters more of a community than professional environment but yeah... I obviously disagree with that sentiment.

1x FTE Salaried Bar Manager and 2x Casual Bar Staff.

and for what its worth I love them all, great people. They do a really good job as well.
