Fair effort by Roy to stay motivated for that long.
He could have easily walked away after all those premierships.

My first thought was I really don't care. I took the time to reconsider and came up with the same answer. :D

I'm a bit torn on this one, one one hand Roy has been a legend of our club and has plenty of credits in the bank. The counter to that is the garbage game plan we have at the moment is hindering the club's development. Unless the game plan changes we will go nowhere fast.

I personally think it is great news. Yes, this year may not have been a successful one for the club. However, in Roy's 14 years of coaching we have only missed the finals on one occasion. The current playing list is very young and, given the vast majority stay together next year, there should be successful times ahead.
This year's performance has really come down to three bad quarters of football:
Giving up a 40 point lead against Norwood
Giving up a 29 point lead against Glenelg
Giving up a 21 point lead against North.

Take those three shocking quarters away and we would be sitting safely in the five.

"The Roy Laird Stand."

It will pay for itself.

$2 a seat on game day.

If you had a meal in the club on game day.

Sounds good Dogs management.

I am available for changing my employment. lol

Let's keep it affordable for members.

I knew he was still coaching the other weekend, when We smashed Glenelg by 16 goals.

As Kris Grant said, there simply isn't a better credentialed candidate for the job.

The job is far less attractive to highly credentialled prospective coaches these days than it was previously. Hard to get much more qualified than Laird.

Yes. You're likely to get (a) someone completely untried, or (b) someone completely untried with AFL coaching ambitions who'll piss off after a whiff of success.

Of course there isn't, there's very few 7 time premiership coaches around but it's a decision about the future and not the past.

As I said earlier though, job for life there for Roy.

He's got some credits to his name hence surviving some ordinary results of late. Every time I see the Dogs they have that full on commitment every supporter loves to see. Not much commented on but Dog's juniors have for most of his tenure been very ordinary. That can't help him.

I don't think there are many coaches out there who can rival his record of having his team make the finals in 13 of his 14 seasons coaching. This is despite being at a club with limited junior ranks and less money spent on recruits than most clubs. He certainly gets the most out of his players.
