Now it's going to be a postal vote that won't count.

Labor, Liberal, Greens, Democrats? Here's the place to discuss.

The reason its not going ahead is the senate, and the reason that's a cluster **** is Turnbull made a miscalculation and called the election at the wrong time. With a majority in both houses, and bada-bing, you get your plebiscite (for better or worse).

The ridiculous thing, though, is that the plebiscite is TOTALLY meaningless. Politicians will still have to vote on it to make it law. Many have said they are going to disregard the results of the plebiscite when they do have this vote. Abbott will vote NO even if 99.9999999% vote Yes in the plebiscite. The same goes for many, many conservatives (Bernardi, Christensen and Abetz have all stated they are going to ignore the plebiscite when they vote). Thus, why waste $122 million on a plebiscite which is going to be disregarded????

PS Most indigenous people don't want recognition in the constitution, they want a treaty.

Happy to defer to the indigenous leaders as to what they want

"Leaders" is debatable, definitely not government appointed "leaders" IMHO.

Genuinely unsure who you are referring to

Those who identify as Labor because of the traditional industrial/workplace meaning of the word and the associated notions of equity and fairness for workers, but who also have religious convictions and thus are socially conservative on issues like abortion, gay marriage, etc. For example, there's a strong tradition of support for the Labor party among Catholics, who were working class back before and at the time of federation.

Spot on

Soldiers of Jesus immediately come to mind

Most of us Catholics are actually in favour of same-sex marriage, to be honest. Marriage was a term in use well before the Church created the 'SACRAMENT of marriage'. All that needs to happen is for the Church to be allowed to not have to perform same-sex weddings as SACRAMENTS. Then there really is no problem from the Church's point of view. For those who wish to be married through the sacrament of marriage, have the Church perform the wedding. For those who don't want it as a sacrament, have a civil wedding. Although I am a strong ALP voter, I would certainly support Smith's LNP Bill which provided these safeguards for religious communities.
Cheers

Great post.

And Yep, churches won't be forced to marry gay people if they don't want to.

Please go tell your catholic mate tony this.

My upbringing says no.

I understand the problem here.

Call it what you want but not marriage.

Marriage is between a man and a woman.

For love and birth of children.

I like my many peers will vote no.

This is not about equality.

Equality cannot happen having children with the same sex.

It is impossible.

your upbringing was in a different time, when racism and discriminaation was encouraged, and no, you clearly dont

Dog_ger2 wrote:Marriage is between a man and a woman.

no, its between two consenting adults

marriage has nothing to do with having children. you know people have been having children without being married for centuries right? and ther eare a very many people that get married and dont have kids.....

your peers are living in the past, and are discriminating against people that are "different" to you. do you also want to bring back slavery?

i already know more than a handful of same sex couples that have kids. once again you are wrong. any chance you can come out of the 1950's?
