Have heard that there is currently a review occurring with zones?

When was the last change, anyone know? Thought it was only 304 years ago?

Being part of a club that has 4 SANFL zones all within its neighborhood Im pretty interested in this.

They were recently re drawn when Port lost their zones. I believe the current review is meant to take into account participation levels not just males of a certain age. Not sure of much more than that however. Very difficult balancing act and there are always winners and losers. I know South and Eagles appeared to do well out of the last review but maybe that was to correct a previous imbalance (South would argue that was the case)

Surely you can;t change the zones every 3-4 years, should be a 10 year minimum once changed.

Traditionally it is every 5 years

It normally occurs near the end of the season the year AFTER a census, working of number of 10-19 Males.

Normally the changes are pretty minor

The change due Port becoming a 100% AFL entity was a one off and as big as it gets dividing 9 areas into 8

It is aimed to allocate a club's talent development and promotional zones.

If previous processes hold, each club gets to make a submission, the allocation is done, there is an appeal period then final decision is made to take effect I think from November 1 (so junior pre-seasons reflect new zones)

It was chaired by Dr Graham Hugo who was a demographics expert at the University of Adelaide
however he has passed away

Personal opinion, the recent number allocations were very numbers based, not much though to supporter heartland.

It will be interesting to see if this will change.

Personally, I think we should be interviewing the people that were around then, with the aim of getting information to make sure that the changes are done as well as possible this time.
