the problem with these theories is not the US or North Korea, but South Korea
If it all kicks off, Seoul, a city of 10M people, is less than 100km away from the North Korean border, and this is the real worry. They are in range of conventional weaponry too not just long range missiles.

The moment their missiles fly towards a US target (presuming they can actually do what their state-run news service tells us they can do, and that can't be taken on face value IMO) they'll be hit. Of course, China's role in this is key, and no-one's really sure where they sit.
NK use this sabre-rattling as a way of reminding the US to stay the **** away. Without it's nuclear arsenal the US would've probably attempted to liberate NK in some fashion and dismantle the regime.

You mean Kim Jong Il didn't shoot a 38 under-par 34 with 11 hole-in-one in his first ever round of golf?

Not at all, his chunky physique indicates he definitely has comparable golfing skills to that of a professional like John Daly. Let's just hope he's not as irascible.
