Don't think anyone would be offended if you were genuinely just trying to be nice and didn't realise etc - as long as you are respectful

Social settings I tend to let the women dictate on first meet. On first meet with my mate's fiancee, she initiated a hug and I was ok with that.
My female friends and wifes/girlfriends of mates, I will often hug, kiss on the cheek dependant on how well I know them.
