Gets rid of the 2 Byes meaning there will be 18 Qualifying matches for each team instead of 16

Any reason given by them Jackpot?

Not specifically but got the feeling they only had about half a team that was fully committed to give A Grade a go. I guess they had good intentions to signal their intent on having an A Grade but when it came to the crunch they didnt have the numbers.

Well at least Hahndorf are back having a crack and hopefully Mt Barker next year along with another would be great to get it back up to 10 teams

With a bit of luck it could be the Miners. No new players that I've heard of. So looking for improvement from our regulars along with a few kids. One good one in particular looks set to play in the A&EH this summer rather than head down the hill in the afternoons. A year of A2's for this lad would be ideal preparation for a step up the following season... who knows?!?!

They merged with Hamilton. Nominated 5 sides upon entry then pulled the pin on the 5th side shortly after.
Their A Grade will start in Section 2.

Strange decision as Hamilton seemed to be going ok on their own.

A&EHCA A Grade kicks off next Saturday with 3 of the 4 opening round matches played on Turf

Langhorne Creek v Woodside

Strathalbyn v Nairne

Ashbourne v Hahndorf

Wistow v Lobethal

Hard to make too many confident predictions coming into a new season but here goes.

Creeks are looking to break an opening round drought that extends back to 2003/04 season apparently. There was nothing between them in the Prelim Final last year and one could expect this game to either way as well. Ive tossed the coin and its come down ..................... a TIE

Strath after winning 6 of their 1st 7 games last season then went on to lose their last 9  They are better than that and would be eager to get off on the right note but run into Nairne 1st up who again would undoubtedly be favorite to win the Flag again. Tip - Nairne

Ashbourne v Hahndorf i have no idea. No idea who or if Ashbourne have recruited from overseas again and with Hahndorf being out of A Grade for the last 3 seasons its hard to judge how they wil handle the return. Tip - Ashbourne

Wistow v Lobethal. Wistow coming off a winless season will again start underdog in most games they play tho one would expect they'd snag a few wins this year at least surely? Lobethal would be a short price to finish Top 4 so to do that they cant be losing this one 1st up. Tip - Lobethal

Well , what a start to the season.
I tipped a TIE but just the wrong game.

Hahndorf in racking up 234 against Ashbourne would have been confident of a 1st up win back in A Grade after a 3 year absence. Ashbourne had other ideas tho as new English recruit Scott Kellow had instant success in hitting up 116 to put the Bulls on the path to victory. Need 2 runs off the last ball Roocke could only manage 1 run to TIE the game, getting Run Out going for the 2nd.

Meanwhile the exact same scenario was being played out on the Hill with Wistow also needing 2 runs off the last ball of the match against Lobethal. Seems the striker played and missed but they attempted to run a BYE as the keeper attempted the Run Out to win the match but missed and incredibly gave the opportunity for an overthrow which Wistow achieved to score the win after being winless last season.
Whilst Wistow arnt expected to be a player in the Finals race, Lobethal certainly are and will be interesting to see how costly this loss is come Seasons end.

Strath set Nairne a very competitive 4/200 to chase but as they often do, Nairne comfortably chased it down with the loss of 4 wickets with a bit over 2 overs to spare in their slightly rain reduced match of 41 overs each. New recruit Samuel Rowe top scoring with a steady 69* n.o. opening the batting.

Creeks extended their opening round loss record to 14 years straight when they fielded a very depleted side against Woodside. Creek only having 4 players from their narrow Prelim Final loss to the Indians only 7 months ago.
Creeks batting 1st did manage a creditable 9/162 off their 45 overs after some tight bowling.
In Reply , Woodside raced to their target in only 27 overs, scoring 3/165
Wescombe despite being hit in the head by a McLeod bouncer 1st ball of the innings, then went on to smash the wayward Creek attack to finish on 100* n.o. after being given several reprieves with a few dropped chances.

Seems that way which is great and hope it continues.
Plenty of runs scored in all games as well which makes for entertaining cricket.
Perhaps the bowlers needing a week or 2 to get into the swing of things as footy, wet weather and lack of light pre daylight savings normally limit Pre season training to a minimum for most clubs.

Jenner made 75 to set them up for a win
Handy batsman
Saw him make 178 n.o. against the Creeks 2 years ago and amazingly it still wasn't enough to get them over the line on that occasion

Geeee Must be fun batting in the middle order for Meadows and getting 3 hits a year if you're lucky.

Well done to Luke on the 217.
