Hi all – dare I say it, I have an informal Yes or No vote for you to consider but this one is perhaps a little less political that the other one floating around at the moment.



The League is pleased to have accepted both the Marion and O’sullivans Beach/Lonsdale Football Clubs into Division 7 for season 2018.



It should be acknowledged from the outset that The League has absolutely no position on the following initiative other than tidying up a suggestion, albeit a loose one from a member club to consider a Division 6 North and Division 6 south competitions. From a logistics view point it makes sense however there is also a suggestion that the divide between north and south is not what it once was with arterials easily providing uninterrupted pathways from the most southern to the most northern clubs in any given division.



The Premiers from each of the Division 6 competitions would then be promoted to Division 5. The runner up would stay in each of the Division 6 competitions though if the premier chose to exercise an option to remain in Division 6, the Runner Up could take the Premiers place, as can be negotiated now.



There are a number of Clubs that can go into North and South each year to accommodate those being relegated from Division 5. That is to say the boundary separating each division can be amended to suit.

Thought about the proposal a bit.. at first I thought maybe it might be a good idea, but the more I think, the less I like.

The lopsided matches in both grades (A/B) will increase, you'll effectively be signing the death certificate for a few battler clubs.

The risk of behavior related incidents is likely to increase if sides are being pumped week in week out.

The opportunity to gain promotion is obviously decreased with only the premier going up - you could be the best side all year, but if you don't win the flag, you're stuck still.

On that, what's to say one of the divisions isnt significantly stronger than the other? Top 5 from D6N could be 10-20 goals better than the best from D6S but the lucky premier in D6S will go up despite not being amongst the best.

Elizabeth smashed sides in D6 this year - imagine what they'd do to Central United, St Pauls, North Pines, Mawson Lakes and Houghton next year?

indeed but now the point can be pushed back onto those that have said they didn't want to take the option of reducing the travel

Don't mind the travel a couple of times a year. We'll look at organising a bus for the trips to Lonsdale and Marion, stop at a craft brewery on the way back, make something of it.

How stupid, stuff up 2 divisions so teams dont have to travel 45 minutes 4-5 times a year. Bring back the CDFA.

You could put all their lower teams in one division and call it the Kevin Durant Division

It could be a good way for them to play other 19-23 year old fit blokes in a C grade comp...

SAAFL have tried this before and it failed. Back in 1996 IIRC Division 5 was split into north and south. By 1997 it was back how it should have been.
