Course was is in excellent nick, greens were like glass IMO. Group of locals in front of us however said they were slow today
I’ve changed my grip & set up on the tee slightly which I’m still getting used to, back 9 was much more consistent.
Whilst 30 points isn’t setting the world on fire, I was happy with my ball striking & know improvement is coming.
Fly out Friday to the Mornington Peninsula with 11 other blokes for 3 rounds. If I can prioritise golf over beer I’m a chance of skinning them for some coin ;)

What handicap are you playing off?
30pts is alright considering you don't get a chance to play regularly....and then playing with quick greens doesn't help (thats my excuse)

Anyone played Mount Compass lately?

Heading there on the 12th November to play with some mates on a weekend away, after playing at Victor on the Friday.

I know what to expect at Victor, but it would be 25 years since I played Compass last, and that was not much fun from memory that day either.

Well.....

1. Tee shot wasnt too bad, missed the fairway to the right and ended up just left edge of the rough of the next fairway.

2. Tried to chip/punch back through to my fairway, clipped a small branch and ended up behind the tree.

3. 2nd attempt to chip out was actually good, middle of the fairway, where the drive should have been.

4. 3 wood, decent contact and length, just finds the bunker in the fairway on the left.

5. Bunker shot that would have been great if it was a greenside 1, not 100 from the hole.

6. Little chip that was exactly what I wanted, low, landed where it was meant too etc etc, just rolled through the green to the bunker at the back.

7. Didn't get out of the bunker

8. Got out the bunker but ended up at the front of the green, pins up the back.

9. Putt up the green, leave it 6ft short.

10. putt it 6ft past the hole

11. Great putt, pace and line spot on. Ball does a lap of the hole and stays out.

12. Tap in for 7 over par for the hole

I fear a long day coming up then, and a lot of balls going missing.

Par round today Thaxted.

As we approached the 18th we all commented on how average we had all been. Noone was really in the zone or anything... was fairly consistent off the tee and I saved the best for last with a beautiful hybrid that left me around 165m to centre of green. another 3/4 hybrid in and it was perfect in that it just rolled up nicely onto the green. Had a nice chip in for par in the 9th. Also found my ball hiding behind weeds....ffs....really hard to get a swing at the ball and then its a lottery as to how the ball jumps out.
Finished up with a +1, adjusted gross of 86 and dropped down to a new low of 15.4 which is a pleasant surprise... given it didn't 'feel' like a reasonable round.
Ive noticed a beer cart out over last 2 weeks....thats gonna be dangerous if it continues over summer.
Post round burger + pint at $19 does the job for lunch... burgers are very nice, big and juicy...
Also chatting to a few people the exodus from The Vines is continuing.....
