The Port Adelaide Football Club wishes to advise that at the conclusion of the AFL season, Robbie Gray was diagnosed with testicular cancer.

He has since had surgery to remove the tumour and, following the advice of his specialist, will undergo a short course of precautionary chemotherapy.

Port Adelaide’s Doctor Mark Fisher says the treatment is important despite the successful surgery.

“The chemotherapy is a preventative measure to significantly reduce the chance of cancer returning,” he said.

General Manager of Football, Chris Davies says the club’s players and staff will do whatever necessary to support Robbie and his family throughout the treatment and beyond.

“Robbie’s health and wellbeing is, as always, the most important thing to us,” Davies said.

“We are thankful the surgery went as well as it could have.

“The treatment isn’t expected to interfere with Robbie’s ability to begin pre-season training in November.”

The Port Adelaide Football Club requests the privacy of Gray, his wife Annabel, their families and friends be respected during this time.

Got a cousin going through it now. Tumor was found, taken out and the short course is purely precautionary and they basically give everyone a dose in this instance.

At least this has occurred during the off-season. Some Chemotherapy treatments are very mild these days hopefully as they say a precaution.

Hogan also had chemo I think and as you said it’s more of a precaution. He was playing again in 8-10 weeks for memory so hopefully a similar outcome for Robbie

Not that footy is in any way a priority, but he isn't expected to miss much of the pre-season. The wonders of modern medicine.

Still, scary. Have a feel down there lads.

Correct.

We've got a good "feel" ( no pun ) on this site at the moment when it comes to things blokes aren't usually across such as thoughts and feelings getting the better of them, those on here who have been through this can be confident of coming on here without fear or judgement.

So what morell is saying is right, don't just have a go for your own enjoyment, have a go for your own health too.

I don't think we were ever gonna see it at Port, needs to break the cycle and change the scenery, Clarko will do him well.
