haha. Div 1 teams would demolish southern teams.

Didn't say they wouldn't?

I said I couldn't comment on the SAAFL because I won't go and watch any of it because it has absolutely no atmosphere and barely any supporters. GSFL, HFL(both divs) and RMFL I watch a fair bit of because they all have big crowds and good country footy atmosphere!!

I think you'd find Mount Compass, Hahndorf and Meningie would all give the best div 1 sides a fair shake!

Sorry scottyroo, I have seen a few games here and there when I can, but not enough to comment on the standard of the whole competition.
And not having juniors follow, not many grounds have decent parking. A long with what I have heard from recruits from div 1 amateurs to the country I have spoken with all have said exactly the same thing, that country footy leagues atmosphere is what draws them out to these leagues. Obviously div 1 standard is excellent, and probably the closest thing to SANFL footy. I'm not having a dig at the standard, but you can't beat country footy atmosphere in my opinion.

Bit of back pedalling going on here

I'm sure the standard of div1 would be right up there with the two southern leagues

Independent footy is about C3 these days, I suspect.

Yet Waikerie would match it with any of the top teams in country footy IMO

Seems like they were far ahead of everyone else this year. Possible.

Brighton are the best test case at the moment, obviously dominated Div 3 as expected, next year will be interesting in Div 2, I suspect they will make the finals but dunno if they will be in the top 2-3.

I believe Div 1 would be the best under SANFL, the top 10 players in country v Div 1 teams would be very similar in talent/skill. Div 1 would get the top country teams in depth though.

Just noticed this thread, I'll throw my two cents worth:

1. SAAFL Div 1
2. SAAFL Div 2
3. HFL Div 1
4. GSFL
5. RFL/RMFL
6. SAAFL Div 3

We all know money plays a role but tend to agree with him.

Having watched a fair bit of country footy in the last year the atmosphere and culture of country footy is a million miles ahead of amateur footy imho.

Id say the Barossa & GSFL look to be on par from what i have seen, maybe bigger bodies in the Barossa.
In my opinion I would put the top sides in these two leagues on par with a mid tear Div 1 side.
HFL Div 1 would also be in that conversation. Hahndorf as the stand out there.

Interesting thread.
I think the local SAAFL top Teir coaches get more out of their players due to proximity to training & more
Assistant coaching options available.
I in order I’d say.
DIV 1
RMFL,
HILLS D1
KNTFL
GSFL
BAROSSA
SFL

Not nearly showing the BLG the respect it deserves. Having the RMFL above it is farcical.

Hills div 1 and BLG strongest country leagues.

Clubs range from div 1 contenders to div 5. Div 7 if you look at Freeling this year.

Good locals in both leagues with top ups due to close proximity to the city.

I do believe southern districts won the country carnival....again!
Considering its made up of SFL and GSFL players I think they're better comps than given credit for.

Freeling Div 7? Reckon you might be the one not showing the BLG the respect it deserves. ;)

Team for team, BLG, Hills Div 1 and GSFL wouldn't have much between them. Make sense being the three closest to the city.

IMO

HFL D1
Barossa
Great Southern
Top 3 in any order by a bit. KNTFL probably next in line, RMFL 5-10 years ago would easily be top 3. No where near it now.
