Me too, but I'd almost be tempted to say they had their chance and add some genuine individual star power via the draft. Who knows, two quality 1st round selections might have strengthened their 2018 side anyway. But again they know the draft pool far better than I do and Hamish Ogilvie is one of the best in the business.

History suggests that not too many draftees make a big impact in under 12 months, there are exceptions but it is a lot like fishing.

You get pick 74 come out and be an absolute gun where pick 6 could be a dud at AFL level.

For sure there's a lot of uncertainty about any draftee's, but that cuts both ways. Think the Crows will need to add a bit more this draft, effectively losing Lever, Cameron and Smith, with one incoming quality player thus far. Jacobs 30 next season, Douglas 31, Betts 33. Very little cover for the likes of B Crouch and Talia who it would be hard to be confident in getting through the entire season unscathed by injury. Some of that's in the lap of the injury Gods as it is for all clubs of course. Really sounds as though the club has adopted the approach of throwing the kitchen sink at 2018, but positioning themselves for a "top up" in 2019.

That's naive, even for you JK.

Actually, looking at it that way it's not so bad afterall

This is naïve even for you Booney

So it's not overs if Adelaide don't win '18?

Now two round-one picks ins't unrealistic?

My god some of the crap talk om here. The trade is fine, and the crows still have 2 x first for next years strong draft. They landed Gibbs to add to there midfield right now and then 2 x 18 year old next year from the first round.

Carlton have done well also, a few more first round picks to assist in the 10 year rebuild.

Right now you can't quantify future picks, sure it's a first rounder next year from Melbourne and Adelaide are building a war chest to get at Lukosious or Rankine etc but there's a long way between now and then...what you can quantify is what this trade means for 2017. It's 10 and 16 for Gibbs and last year that was, in Reid's words not mine, irresponsible to entertain.

Absolutely, if Adelaide hold a cup up next year it's 50% full, if they don't it's getting emptied.

Someone worked the points out on the Gibbs deal

If Adelaide finish 4th and Carlton finish 15th the basically the Crows pay Pick 7 and Pick 69. Good deal
