"Road to the Draft" podcast rates him as a potential top 10 selection.

Cal Twomey rates him highly.

It's been happening for an extended period at the Crows though

On this thread way earlier there is a table of players leaving/traded. Top was Geelong and Adelaide around the 14th place mark.

That list was completely irrelevant as it didn't take into account whether a club would have actually wanted to lose the player, while Adelaide would have been 14th a high percentage of there players were ones they most definitely would have wanted to keep, or players in there best 22

How can it be irrelevant when it’s the players choice if your traded or not. I’m sure you are right many of the players that left we would want to keep but I’m guessing all clubs have players that leave that they would rather keep. We will never know but would Davis and Bock have left if there were no expansion teams?

In saying that I’m sure there are things we need to improve.

The issue isn't players leaving be they moved on or traded it's good players choosing to leave.
My memory is poor but I can only remember Ablett and Colbert in the last 20 years, maybe that defender to Freo too at the start of their history? Struggling to think of others.

Mumford is one you probably would have liked to have kept at the time, but he wasn't a big name at that stage. Does seem the Crows have lost a few they wanted to keep, but they've coped pretty well.

Is that "what" or "why" in WTF?

"What" - pick 91 (basically a pick that would have been passed on anyway, so essentially for free)
"Why" - did a trade rather than taking the risk of missing him in the pre-season draft. Best case is he plays a role in the midfield and plays most/all of the season. Worst case is he replaces Scott Thompson in the SANFL all season.

A "no risk" trade with potential for it being a master-stroke (keep in mind he has played something like 130 consecutive games with the Kangaroos and did only start his AFL career at 25, so may not be as beaten-up as most 31 year olds).

As for how it happened, in a cafe on Lygon Street:
Justin Reid to SOS: "Can we have a chat about a trade for Gibbs' son?"
SOS: "Yes, you'll need to give us 2 first round draft picks"
Kangaroos list manager at the next table overhears the conversation: "Hey Justin, I hear you want Gibson. We can get him to your club for next-to-nothing."
Justin Reid: "Let's get it done then."

I think you have your best case, worst case scenarios mixed up. If Gibson plays all year it means they have had a shit run of injuries to major players

Can anyone explain why the above would occur?
Geelong essentially downgraded their pick for nothing?

I thought the crows lost on the Gibbs deal, but big winners with Cameron, a good day overall for them.

I dunno, is it about points in the draft???

Gibson has been used quite successfully as a tagger, i suspect the Crows want to add this option to their midfield mix

This made me laugh but I’m sure Carlton supporters would have a tear.,,

Any Carlton fan who is sad about Gibbs leaving just remember this will most likely happen...

- Sam Jacobs tap to Gibbs who delivers a long ball to Eddie Betts who snaps truely from the pocket..

It may happen during the regular season but we all know Betts goes missing when it counts.
