Absolutely couldn't agree more. Get rid of the 16 whites comp and the D grade while you're there

Yep agree. Only there for clubs to take subs. Not worth the effort.

Yep.

Having said that, the Jets' 14 whites aren't much different in skill level to their reds, I think a couple of kids are only in the reds for team balance though.

I'd expect both to do well this season despite the reds losing on the weekend.

Wonder if that will happen to a few blokes again? Tougher to get visas now
You would have thought they all learnt a lesson last year.......

I have heard there is another situation that has come to light.

Go on....

Wasn't Joe Gatting replaced as coach for the same reason?

Since when did skill level and ability influence selections.

Gatting is here. Opened the batting for them on the weekend so he made it through.

I mean in the sense of selection criteria, it has often been a "boys club" where it's either the Barossa kids only getting a shot or vice versa.

There's plenty of talented lads in the two sides that played on the weekend.

I feel that Southern are in for a lot of long term pain.

In the the early 2000s their junior sides were ruthless. Batters batted and bowlers bowled. They quite often dominated State junior squads.

Unfortunately Southern then seemed to go sown the community cricket path and everyone got a go. It's still happening. Ray Sutton team has 8 kids bowling and they get flogged.

My contact says the same experts have been picking their juniors for 10-12 years and now the results can be seen.

The last good group of juniors Southern had were, Garrett (Glenelg) Carey (Glenelg) Irvine (Glenelg) Overall (Too hard) Joraslafsky (Work) are gone.

These blokes are 25 or 26 now.

Barrett & McCormack are trying to keep a finger in the dam.

Nothing to do with coaches, or selectors, or batting orders, or more kids getting a bowl.

There are simply fewer good young cricketers to call on.

Area has changed. No longer strong sport/cricket culture in the area. Fewer kids playing, local clubs weaker, school cricket weaker. More families from non-English speaking background in the area who are unfamiliar with cricket. Beach dragging more away from organised sport in general.

Cricket more and more becoming a sport for the wealthy areas rather than the working class areas.
