Why not move to Hobart permanently if it’s a permanent money spinner?

The current arrangement is heavily backed by the Tasmanian Government I believe.....won't be anywhere near as profitable if there permanently.

[quote="Dutchy"]$470k profit is small? Debt gone from $5m to $1m in this period while reaching 3 prelim finals. Etihad contract is being re-written right now for effect in 2018. Hobart deal provides $500k per match while not reducing membership games in melbourne.

We were also told we were shit and couldn't survive in Melbourne, remember?, all of the above has happened since.[/quote

North are a basket case in waiting, I see no way they can be competitive this year, they will not attract any free agents no matter what they offer them money wise next year or anytime soon. They arent prepared to trade anyone with currency so the rebuild will be very slow and drawn out. They have very fickle supporter base if you could call it that and those small profits will soon turn into massive losses.
But the biggest thing going against them is the AFL are more than happy to let it all unfold and see North forced to relocate to Tassie.

$470k is a small profit and that’s on the back of strong years on the field and the AFL gifting you $2.8m from the future fund. North won’t be playing finals for the next 3-5 years and we saw how quickly your fans abandoned them this year on the back of a few losses, wait until they are bottom 4 for a few years running. Your facilities are still one of the poorest in the comp although I’m led to believe you have funding from the government in the pipeline but that could be a few years. As for the Etihad deal you better read the fine print because the AFL have stated that if your deals are better they will cut handouts to you so you really might not be much better off. I’d guess you will get a lot of late Sunday arvo games this year which sucks and all clubs hate them

All while still paying 95% of the cap to absolute c and d graders, the ones that have stuck at North will be getting well rewarded for their mediocre careers

[emoji38] how are we going broke? Got hardly any debt and made profits 8 of the last 9 years, all while being the only club in the AFL that does not feed off the pokie drip.

Its because nothing is happening at their irrelevant club.

This is the same “irrelevant club” that handed you your arse on a platter this year to the tune of 10 goals?
The same “irrelevant club” that has actually won a flag since you last won one?

Buckle up Spargo and develop a thick skin, your club is in for a world of pain over the next 3-5 years, regardless of the odd minor round result and your opinion of other clubs.

Pass me that crystal ball, the one that probably gave the Bulldogs little chance last year & Richmond no chance at all this year...

Sounds like the Crows are playing in the next 5 GFs and winning them all while North are down the bottom being irrelevant with the Suns...

Reality is we could have gotten 2 blokes who are 26-27 who have never played finals, however does that win us our next flag? Unlikely. The hard decision, considering the war chest we have, was to do nothing, grab our kids and reload in 12 months time. Meanwhile I think JZ, Brown & Cunnington will be getting a nice bonus payment this year so we meet the minimum cap level.

BTW love your work Spargo. 8)

This "war chest" that keeps getting referred to, I'm wondering how you'll actually be able to spend it. You've tried woo'ing Martin and Kelly with ridiculous offers of over $1.2m per season each and neither of them were interested.

So what's the chances of you getting 3 blokes on $800+ or 1 or 2 over $1.0m in the next year or two?

If you do, what does that do to your culture, how would a playing group feel about a ring in getting over $1m?

Next years free agents list - who you going to blow the cash on?

There's a big list of RFA/FA at the end of '18 but not many big names.
