Why would a council top dress an oval this time of year half way through a cricket match ?
Unbelievable.

Oops. Ridiculous!

whoever is batting this week would be fuming... especially if they are chasing 200+

Farms 2 for 40 odd chasing 140 odd.
If the Farms are good enough they will get the remaining runs, no sour grapes, I just don't get the stupidity.

I'm not sure the council have got many options. Never a good time to top dress an oval, but you have to be cruel to be kind. Just remember, when you are standing on the balcony in January with a Sparkling Ale in hand and you think how good the oval is ...... there is a reason.

I coached junior cricket on there on Sunday and couldn't believe the standard of the oval since football season. On other note what is with the black fence up behind the coaches boxes?

Think it's more for junior footy than anything, but it'll be to stop spectators being around the coaches boxes, and sitting on those logs between the boxes.

The logs are being removed, and bigger coaches boxes put in eventually as well. They'll be wider and deeper and be moved back a little further from the boundary line.

Sounds like a good idea, was always a case as a away team of supporters sitting on the logs and giving advice to the coaches and players.

Nothing would compare to the coaches box at Rosewater right near where their drunk supporters would be in their finest.

Daniel Bryant's old man stands next to the coaches boxes and then hurls abuse at the umpires - and they turn and think it's coming from us

This is the first year we haven't had a hundred ton of sand put on our oval.
I can tell you from experience that trying to hit boundaries, along the ground was nearly impossible.

Sand may still be on its way, probably come in the middle of summer, no rain, drought conditions.

Poor analogy.
Heccies batted first and were poor and in trouble, had to rebuild and take things slowly, week two will see the game semi decided in the first two hours then the pressure will be off for the happy hours after that.

We all forgot one very important thing.
Hectorville are garbage, as are Flinders Park.
Great 4th wicket stand of well over a hundred.
Less pies were served at afternoon tea.
