Let the 2 interlopers stay. But the matches we play against them aren't for points, they are trial games & they can't play finals.

Yep, this idea has been put forward a few times. In this case Pseudo's "Pure SANFL Ladder" would give a true indication of how the season unfolds.
The Power and Crows could have some sort of reserves cup for the best performed SANFL side against them in their reserves games. These would be recorded in a separate ladder, and the level of disinterest shown by the SANFL sides would mirror that of the Crows and Power.
Would it not then be ironic if the reserves then complained of a "lack of interest" shown by the SANFL sides and demanded to be let back into the SANFL proper? My guess is this is the exact reason they do not want such a set up. They like the genuine competition offered by a side playing for full points as part of a true premiership season. However, they genuinely do not feel the same motivation to put in themselves.
Something about a taste of their own medicine perhaps?

Noticing the SANFL website is becoming more of an advertising tool for the AFL. 3 of the 7 stories are AFL direct and the coming and goings story makes specific mention of PAP and AC AFL players moving,

Much fairer than the current set up though so it has more merit than the current setup.

Is there any sporting competition that has certain games that don't count for points?

Not sure, but Glenelg certainly played their last two games of the season as if they didn’t count for points...

We could be one of the first. We're already probably one of the most farcical competitions in the world (right up there with the dying wafl).

There used to be the Escort Cup in SANFL. It was played as a midweek/ night competition.
Also, the Grand Finalists from the previous year used to play against the Vics in a midweek/ night competition.
Then there was the Foxtel Cup not so long ago.
There have been all sorts of trial games and such during the history of the SANFL, which were played during the season. For example, in 1978 Sturt played North Melbourne a week before the Grand Final. Maybe not such a good idea because both Sturt and North lost their respective Grand Finals after both being raging favourites.
North and Norwood played an exhibition game in Sydney in the 1950s. Not sure if this was during the season proper, or pre-season.
Clubs often play an internal trial to fill in time when they have the time, and, correct me if I am wrong, I think a couple of sides may have arranged to play each other during the bye round.

The Crows and Power reserves playing against the 2 SANFL sides which have the bye should pose no problem IMO.

The only barrier I can dream up would be that the SANFL sides would not go at it 100% in such a situation, and I imagine that the AFL sides would prefer the stiffer competition offered by the current set up. To support this deduction I offer the fact that the suggestion that the Crows and Power Reserves compete in the SANFL reserves comp was dismissed out of hand as "unacceptable", yet no reason was given.
Oh, what ******* irony, eh?

I think this game was a curtain raiser to the elimination final, as both sides has the first week of the finals off as they finished top and were looking to fill the footy void. I think Sturt lost Melbourne recruit Gary Hardeman due to an injury sustained in this game. Managed to find some footage of it:

This was a proper match, round 8 of the 1953 season. Newsreel footage in the link below, with some amusing commentary.

Although of course I'd rather they are kicked out immediately, I prefer the idea of offering points (or even 1 point) to the sovereign clubs if they can beat the big boys. No points or finals the other way though. Could count towards regular premiership standings or towards winning a side-comp / prize. The Compromised Cup?

That free was from a kick in from the full back after a point had been scored. It has always been a free to the opposition in that circumstance if the ball goes out of bounds without it being touched.
