Stinging nettles, what has happened to stinging nettles?

As a kid I remember these things being the bane of my old mans existence every weekend on the 1/4 acre block in Brooklyn Park and inevitably they played a role in my weekends year round as I'd be salvaging a cricket ball or footy from the hydrangea bush or from under the grape vines.

The little bastards would catch this little unsuspecting bastard by surprise and I'd end up with stings all up and down my limbs.

Now, I'm in Alberton on a big block with lots of garden, most of it I keep in order ( #lawnporn ) and we've got a fair bit of garden out the back that's got some succulents on the edge of the lawn but some space behind them before the fence. When I was 10 that space would have been littered with stining nettles, last night I spotted the first one I'd seen in the almost 10 years I've been in this house.

So, where have all the stinging nettles gone?
