PORT ADELAIDE is set to hold an Australian-sports-first member convention in 2018 - Inside Port Adelaide: Live.

The convention is being modelled on a range of sports conferences held around the world, and it will be the first time an AFL club has opened its doors in this way to provide its members with this exclusive opportunity.

Port Adelaide Executive General Manager Matthew Richardson said the club is extremely excited to provide the members with this exclusive convention.

“At Port Adelaide, the personal connection we have with our members is a priority. We are a member first club, and we are always looking at ways to innovate and make our members feel a genuine part of the club,” he said.

“This is important to us, and we think this is a fantastic way to inform and educate our members and hopefully make them feel even more connected to their club.”

The club will provide members with key presentations and strategies from coaching staff, players, list management, and will be headlined by a keynote address from senior coach Ken Hinkley, and a closing address from Chairman David Koch.

Tickets to the convention will be made available exclusively to members, and numbers are limited due to capacity in the first year, with a view to build the convention into an annual event for its members.

The convention will run from 8:30am-3.00pm, and it will lead in to the club’s traditional Family Day and internal trial at Alberton Oval.


The program for INSIDE PORT ADELAIDE LIVE will include;

Defense Masterclass – Nathan Bassett
Club’s defence strategy including panel discussion with several defenders including Tom Jonas and Jack Hombsch

List Management, Trade and Draft Strategy – Chris Davies & Jason Cripps

The Role of an AFL Coach in 2018 – Matthew Nicks

Members could come and listen to various coaches, draft and talent scouts and administrators for a couple of hours and then it was followed by a Q&A that lasted about an hour. I went to the first one and it was ok but apparently at the last one there was a few simpletons make fools of themselves in the Q&A session. Doesn’t sound in depth as Ports but 3 hours was enough for me, all of the new draftees and new players were greeted and mingled with the members for a bit aswell. Last years was on a Tuesday night which was a bit of a crap time slot

You think there were a few simpletons at Essendons....... wait til Booney and co. start asking questions at Ports information session.

Some clown got up and said he saw a shisha on our bench at a VFL game and players on the bench were smoking it lol.
Now if he said they were coming off and getting jabs I would of believed him

Yeah just what grassroots footy needs, more amateur coaches thinking their team needs to play to an AFL game plan.

Or why they dont just leave one guy sitting at full forward. Take a chance that your 17 can match their 18 in the 50m bubble that they play in, hell the opposition probably has one guy always heading to the bench so its really 17 on 17 anyway.

Ours is free but for members only and you have to register for attendance as they try to cap numbers. It’s also shown live on our website. Port’s sounds like a bit like longer and more in depth so would definitely pay to go

was watching a replay today and thought the same thing. Will happen one day, a high quality player will come sprinting off and badly do a hammy or a knee. will only be time i reckon the way some absolutely sprint off

Fairly simple rotations are pre programmed to occur. Players are told to minimise the amount of time you play with one down so stoppages in play are ideal. No brainer to come off after a goal, coincidence that said player coming off kicks a goal....

I did enjoy when Mitch Duncan in the Prelim final went straight back to the centre and not go off... if a player kicks a goal then keep him out there and get someone else off

Simply its one of the few breaks in a game of footy these days where the game completely stops. Therefore needs to be used to make changes/rotations.
