I think Jeff Gutt is a good fit for Stone Temple Pilots.

He's got a good mix of Scott Weiland and Dave Coutts about him.

Agreed mate I was surprised how good the new guy sounded on 'Down'.

Exactly. He'll do the back catalogue some serious justice.

I think he'll end up being a better fit than Chester Bennington.

I honestly never listened to STP with Chester in the band, not even a snippet so can't really comment on how good or not Chester was with STP. The move alone to go with such a 'name' singer to replace Weiland pissed me off enough as it screamed sell out to me. I always felt it was more a stop gap thing too I was sure it was never going be a long term thing, either the band would move on from him or he would quit to concentrate fully on LP which is what happened. It just seemed like a relationship of convenience, they were using his 'name' and he idolised Weiland and the band growing up.

This is different it's more organic they didn't just grab a name again they went through a lengthy audition process and supposedly Gutt auditioned in Sep last year and then he was told he got the job in May and they've been secretly recording an album with him until now making it official.

I couldn't get into the EP they did with Chester Bennington; it seemed like STP-lite, and Bennington tried a little too hard to be like Scott Weiland. The end result was an effort slightly weaker than the last album with the original lineup. Here's a snippet of what they did with Chester.

Jeff Gutt sounds like Weiland, but it seems natural, and I'm sure he'll put his stamp on the upcoming album. If Meadow is any indictation, it may be a cross between Tiny Music... Songs from the Vatican Gift Shop and Shangri-La Dee Da. I hope for more of the former, of course.

Amazing, isn't it?

It's the human version of the Obedience School video.

It's good and I'm glad Patton did this. He's said he thinks DC has got legs and he'd like to do another album too.

I quite like DC too.

Dave Lombardo said somewhere that he was surprised about how enthusiastic Patton was about the project.
