I thought the extra padding on helmets was mandatory these days after the Phil Hughes incident, Bancroft hasn't got them on his.

Opinions are fine but there is no need to put something out there when it's a virtual cricket law that you should always play a spinner for a) variety and b) someone who can do the stock bowling and relieve the quicks.

I can't recall us winning a test match when we've haven't picked a specialist spinner (I'm sure we have but I can't recall it) but I can recall us losing tests (Perth Jan 2008) and failing to win tests (Perth 1989) when we've done the same.

The Pitch Pic that Booney put up was always going to change with more rolling and a shave.

Lyons been outstanding this year he had to play.

While I agree about Lyon having to play its a bit harsh mate especially the virtual law stuff

It was virtual law you batted slow at the start of a odi innings
It was a virtual law you picked a keeper based purely on his keeping ability
It was virtual law AO was a batters paradise
It was virtual law that in test cricket you don't step across to outside off and try and whip the ball through the leg side

Things change, times change nothing wrong with different opinions

West Indies proved you can dominate world cricket with 4 quicks if it's the best combination for you.

I think if ever there was a place to put out alternative thinking than a sports cricket forum is probably the exact place for it

Yep maybe "virtual" was a poor choice of word

And when posting the Windies sides did come to mind but like the Indian teams that used to pick four spinners (Bedi, Chandresaker, Venkat and Prasanna, Four quicks are the exception and certainly in Australia's history have rarely worked.

The other issue is would you leave our best bowler out this year (Lyon) to play your fifth best (Sayers)

PS Marsh was first picked because he was thought to be a better bat than Taber, Langley got picked because there were doubts over Tallons ability Knott was considered a better bat than Taylor (Knott was a bloody good keeper though) Smith was first picked for NZ becasue he could bat better than Lees. Keepers being selected for their batting ability is not new.

PPS AO favoured the batsmen but was never a paradise if you didn't work hard and the bowling was good - G Dilly to Les Burdett after his pitch was criticised in the paper in 1986, "I feel sorry for you Les, nothing wrong with that pitch but we're knackerd" Extra Cover J Egan p 244

PPPS the offside shot to leg, you ever watched some vision of Bradman batting?? Good batsmen have been hitting the ball to where the fielders aint since Grace gave his willow a good rub with the linseed! ;)

it was also a virtual law that cricket was played by Gentlemen and you accepted the umpires decision

Rudimentry research from the 1870-90s shows that not to be true

Chatting with some mates on Facebook we all came to the agreement that Starc, Hazelwood and Cummins has the potential to be our best most well balanced, variety offering trio since McGrath, Gillespie, Lee.

Thoughts?

Definitely, Cummins steaming in at first change after two quality opening bowlers is a luxury any international side would love to have. He teamed up well with Lyon in this Test too, they bowled well in tandem.

Supposedly Barstow head butted Bancroft in a late night incident in Perth at the start of the tour

Supposedly Handscombe exchange with Bairstow today was also about it

Gonna be great to see two teams who seriously dislike one another rather than a lot of the love ins we get

Agree. Add a confident Lyon into the mix who looks like he genuinely believes he belongs these days & it’s a quality attack.

Hopefully we can get a decent batting line up together who can help their task. I liked the look of Bancroft today. If we could sort out 3 & 6 we could create a formidable line up

Do we really need to know about this sh!t?

It was good to see the two teams having a bit of lip but keep it on the field.

A snotty nosed journalist sees a bit of banter out there next nekminit it's all over social media and the ECB is putting out a press release.

FFS it happened four weeks ago and noone was none the wiser. last nights story should have been about the good cricket played yesterday not some bar-room non-event (based on the fact Bancroft couldn't give a sh!t about it and had no visible injuries) from four weeks ago.

FFS the media p!ss me off.
