I get the coach probably can't do much, but not a good look IMO. Also begs the question, where was Boof when Smith decided to declare and also not enforce the follow on. Can't lump all the blame on the skipper when we have a coach sitting up stairs with a full team of assistants appearing to do not much during the test.

Starc said Smith didn't consult the bowlers prior to not enforcing the follow on so it's likely he made the decision on the field without the coaches input.

Or he knew exactly what the coaches and sports scientists was gonna say

People keep forgetting the deciscion Smith made is now the 'norm' it would have been more controversial if he had enforced the folks on which is now 'not the done thing' except in the sub continent where pavemen only bowl a few overs here and there

He was a strange cat.. remember one night at the club he was totally baked - Stama had a field day giving it to him - doubt he would've even been able to spell his own name that night

It’s only controversial because we couldn’t make 180+ with the bat. If we had another 50 runs on the board nobody cares

The game should've been over and done with by now, that's the sore point here.
