Fully agree that we are battling against ammos (and country leagues) for players, but still believe that the inability to nab interstaters is a major problem and has never been more evident than this off-season.

We are no longer seen as the best second-tier comp which was a logical step to potential AFL. The VFL is clearly the pathway the players are taking and the main reason that is being cited is they feel the eyes of the AFL Clubs are firmly fixed on these teams, particularly if you are in a team associated with an AFL Club. Players will rather play for Geelong's VFL side as a top up than at a regular SANFL Club.

So, how does that bode if the two AFL Clubs pull out of the SANFL? Damned if they remain, damned if they pull out?

You only had to read the Cam O'Shea interview after being taken by Carlton to realize why the VFL is the league of choice now. The AFL clubs selling in many cases false hope to bolster their reserves teams. There was probably 50 players made the same promise as Carlton did to O'Shea, it worked for one player.

Im led to believe the Dogs recruiting drive is pretty much over, just trying Victorian country leagues now, have missed all ex AFL listed players. Will be a long year.

I think the asking price of 40K (which I assume Glenelg have met) was the contributing factor, A good get with a salary cap reduced by $50K by the SANFL.
