Yep, deadset disgrace.
Has played almost identical from day 1, has offered nothing for the quicks and we are on day 5 and it hasn’t even offered much for the spinners either. May aswell just play on hard wicket

Yep, i did see somewhere the pitches at the MCG are in single trays, ie only 3m wide and apparently 18inches deep. The theory is the clay doesnt have anywhere to move so it doesnt break up, Adelaide Oval on the other hand is one whole tray i believe which for memory has 6 wickets or roughly 18m wide which allows the clay to move as it dries and break up, not that it breaks up a great deal but at least it does something.

Concrete would be more interesting, at least there is some pace in the wicket, Cummins would be a bit lively
MCG drop ins would be nearly 20 years old? They were the first to change due to a footballer breaking their jaw by either the square too hard or stuck in the mud....

I do believe that the MCG pitches are the original ones so perhaps they need replacing

Why wouldnt they get the clay from the same place as the WACA, easily the best clay in the country, actually all the pitches should, sort out those lil ducking curry munchers

Wait until they move to the new stadium over there. Will end up with the same placid drop in pitches as elsewhere

My understanding is the WACA is still being used for domestic games and there are no plans to demolish it or even sell it off

Reckon I heard while the WACA Test was on they are pinching some of the WACA practise wickets for the new joint.

Each pitch at Adelaide Oval is in a separate tray.

Yes individual trays weighing 30 tonne each.
Don't know you'd lift all 7 trays at once?
The MCG wicket was prepared to not break apart and crack.
Clay shrinks as it dries so cracks will appear if left to dry out long enough.

Im aware clay shrinks, what im trying to say is perhaps after so long in trays it has become so compact that it doesnt actually shrink anymore, no doubt more clay gets added as the existing clay becomes more compact and settles down more. since it is confined to a 3m x 25m tray there has to come a point where the tray is absolutely chocka block full, max compaction and max amount of clay in the tray not allowing the clay to "shrink". It makes sense in my head, hard to put into words haha. The wicket couldnt have been any drier than it was yet no cracks?
I have to challenge you on the wicket being prepared to not break and crack for that is exactly what they want it to do but it just doesnt happen.

The soil swells up when wet so only the footmarks would be topped up.
The reason it didn't break up because it had the absolute shit rolled out of it, hence how white it was.
It should've had more green grass and moisture day 1. Just hard enough for slight indentations.
That gives the bowlers a bit more encouragement.

The Ashes: MCG pitch officially classified 'poor' by ICC, a first for an Australian ground

The International Cricket Council has joined the chorus of condemnation levelled at the MCG pitch produced for the fourth Ashes Test, with match referee Ranjan Madugalle rating it poor.

The ICC has officially put Cricket Australia (CA) on notice about the docile drop-in deck, which hardly broke up at all as Australia and England battled to a dull draw.

It is the first time an Australian Test pitch has suffered the ignominy of being dubbed poor by the sport's global governing body.

CA now has a fortnight to respond to the stinging critique.

The ICC's final punishment could range from a formal warning for CA to a fine of $US15,000 (around $19,000).

The Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC) has been embarrassed by the saga but can take solace from the fact it hosted the last Test to be played under an old set of punitive measures for poor pitches.

A new demerit-points system has been introduced that can result in venues being barred from hosting international cricket for up to two years.

Grounds now receive two points for a below average pitch, three for a poor strip and five for an unfit wicket.

Venues will be suspended for a year if they receive five points in a five-year period, or for two years if they accrue 10 points.

Skippers Steve Smith and Joe Root plus many pundits criticised the pitch, which the MCC has already confirmed is the subject of a review.

It was the second time in 2017 that Australia played a Test on a pitch that was rated poor, with the other occasion coming in February.

That Pune wicket, on which Steve O'Keefe claimed a haul of 12-70 as he spun the tourists to their first win in India since 2004, was likened to "the surface of Mars" by Shane Warne.

It’ll never be taken away from the MCG

Their were strong rumors that the Adelaide test next year against India was going to be Australia Day weekend. Obviously it’s not but SACA are apparently pushing for it.

I know. But atleast we dont get that negative reviews here.
The Australia Day test would be good. But CA just look at the money T20 produces.
