Whats with the lack of pace from Starc and Cummins? Both bowling in high 130s... very English like. Needed more pace and fire in first 20 overs otherwise we will be looking at a 400 plus innings from England.

can someone let me know why the ball has to pitch in line for it to be LBW? surely it shouldn't matter... if that Hazlewood delivery was 6 inches outside the line of leg stump he would still be at the crease even though his leg stump would have been hit... I don't get it...

is it for the umpires benefit maybe? if a player bowls from wide in the crease it makes it too hard to judge I guess...
I am not talking to you for 3 minutes because you punched me in the head and it hurt and that was not okay for you to do

Not sure the reasons but this only applies to the ball pitching outside leg stump much to the chagrin of leggies everywhere. It used to apply to balls pitching outside off also but a posse of players led by Sir Don brought about this change.

Nor am I really other than, if the ball is pitching in line & going on to hit the stumps then you deserve to be out. My guess is, otherwise we would see a plethora of blokes bowling around the wicket, pitching outside leg (to a stacked legside field) and anything going on to hit the stumps, could make for a very quick game....

Yeah
Pretty sure the pitching outside Leg rule was bought in to discourage negative leg side bowling

back in the day it seemed it had to pitch in line full stop but the laws were amended.

good wiki article on the subject

I think Colin Cowdrey inadvertently brought about this change as he continually padded up without playing a shot to balls outside offstump. Not saying plenty of others hadn't done the same over the years but Cowdrey did it over and over. And over and over. There were a lot of dull Tests back then with very negative tactics and as you said a stand was taken and the rule was changed.

I mean it's good they get the praise, but over the last couple tests, I've got the distinct impression they're really trying to drive home the point - like they're "brainwashing" the viewing audience about how good the selections are, and how right the selectors got it.

I think its just blatant australian barracking of any form. They were extremely hesitant to criticise the melbourne pitch even though most other outlets were teeing off on it and it was rated as poor.

Channel 9 for years on end has been blantant barricking for the Aussie. Won’t change.

The commentary team is basically coached by CA
