Daily Golf - Where you are playing and how you go

Another 9 yesterday.
Driving was a little more inconsistent. Not so much slice but just general contact.
Putting was ok.
Best hit of the day was again on the 9th. Nice fade around the corner and left myself a 140m....duly hooked it into the greenside bunker...when all I was trying to do was just carefully get it over the bunker thats short and right and get it to run up.....

Haven't played for weeks, stupid lower back/sciatic pain...

Physio has advised another month off... Yay... I'm thinking of playing this coming Saturday and just swinging 3/4 swings...

Probably play better than the full swing I've been using. :)

Just arrived at Coronas house

Overcast, drizzle, mild temperature....

Course looks nice and green.

The view down the 1st is frightening....certainly do need to kick a goal...

Tocumwal Golf Course - 13/01/18

Played my share of golf over the years, and most of the riverland courses, from Waikerie, Berri, Barmera, Loxton etc right the way through Murray Downs (Swan Hill), Rich River (Echucha), Yarrawonga, Cobram, Corowa even some of the smaller ones like Cohuna & Barham. But for some reason I had never been to Tocumwal.

I had the opportunity to play it this weekend, and I am pleased I did.

Booked in a few weeks in advance and we hit off bright & early around 6.45am, second group out for the day. Played with a couple of older local blokes, who shared I cart. I walked.

From the outset the course was presented in superb condition. Fairways damn near best I have played on. Greens were true, not stupid quick, but a good "members" pace. Tocumwal is a 36 hole layout & today we played a composite course - Presidents front 9 & Captains back nine. Some very good holes out there.

I didn't have high expectations due to the very little golf I play nowadays. In fact my handicap has lapsed, so I was not in the comp, the other 2 players were. I gave myself a 17 mark as I think that was my last handicap.

Bogey start was about what I suspected and I repeated that on the second. A Par at the 3rd was followed by a double bogey on the fairly easy 4th hole. I decided I should take notice of the advice provided to MT79 earlier in the week. I more or less hit 3 wood off every tee, and only pulled the Driver on the Par 5's and a few of the longer par 4's. Managed back to back pars (one a chip in from just off the green) and things were looking a bit brighter. Out in 43, considering the front 9 is a par 37, very happy to be 6 over at the turn.

The back nine, while marginally shorter in distance was decidedly tighter, fairways lined by massive trees. Plenty of fairway bunkers, and big greens protected by some very deep bunkers. Fair to say I had my share of luck, hitting trees and bouncing back into the middle, just missing bunkers. A poor tee shot on 11 that the playing partners said was likely OB, somehow stayed in (by a foot) chip out, 9 iron to 10 foot - drain the put for par.... no drama. Absolute BS!!

On reflection my poor shots (and there were a few) did not really cost me anything, other than one where a bladed 9 iron over the back lead to double bogey. Just one 3 putt for the day also resulted in double bogey.

Home in 43 for 86 off the bat or a -4 (40 Stableford Points) in breazy, but not windy conditions. Very happy with that.

The old boys over a beer in the clubhouse suggested I should be buying a tats ticket, as I did have my share of luck..... think I used it all up though.

Round completed in just under 3 hours and 20 minutes. Perfect!

A few pics.

Beautiful track. Will definitely be back.

Kicked a goal inside the left hand post on the 1st....lovely jubbly.

Few other nice drives mixed up with some poor slices.

Corona Man was a good caddy today and his info was supported by the member who joined our group.

Greens were slow which haunted me.....but something I could get used. Do prefer greens that you have to actually hit the putt.

The wipe on par 3 12th. Hit a 7iron right of the green and sand. Then decided to completely lose my shape in swing and put it in the sand. Just picked it up in disgust.

The par on 15 was quite handy. 5i off the tee and pulled it left where some bushes are. Nice little 8i chip and run that allowed for an easy par.

Overall Im quite happy with how the round went.

Not a long course but lots of dog legs to get around...

Greens can often be slow up there. They do trick them up for club champs etc.

Did you play the 19th MT?

I had a squiz inside the 19th but had a bbq to get home to cook. Bit of a rush day yesterday, work, shops, golf, bbq....not enough hours in the day....

A warm summers walk.
Was ok. Nothing really horrendous.
But the putts they all just wandered past the edge of the holes soooo many times.
Only real highlight was a birdie on 13th. Took out the driver which you dont need. Ended up next to a tree. Thought id play an 8i and aim to open area on the left of green....well it went straight towards the flag. Got a nice bounce on the slope at front of green and rolled up nicely. Sank the 4m putt...yay...unintentional birdie but im not giving it back
