Regardless of inconvenience to drivers its just plain ******* dumb by amateur cyclists to undertake such an activity today. If it was cricket we would all be sitting at the pub....Dutchy wrote:PatowalongaPirate wrote:Dutchy wrote:PatowalongaPirate wrote:The 100 or so idiots who have ignored the TDU cancellation today and mounted their bikes causing traffic chaos along their route. From SAPOL : Please don't ride the Bupa Challenge route today! The decision to cancel due to extreme weather conditions wasn’t made lightly by organisers. There will be no facilities for riders including water, food, mechanical support, first aid, and there will be no road closures in place.
Open road, taking their own risk, whats the issue?
If you were driving a car that hit and killed one of these riders because there are no road blocks or safety precautions in place you wouldn't have any issues? Or any of them dropping dead because there are no drink stations or medical support, then that is fine too?
A group of 100 blocking lanes is vastly different to a few riders that you have to change lanes for.
I don't get your point, they are riding an open public road, not breaking any laws, they are taking their own risk, I work in the hills and despite the heat there have been thousands of cyclists riding around watching the TDU, majority of them are from interstate spending big $ in the town.
They are riding up on gorge road which is about to be closed for the TDU race, who would be driving down there today knowing that? They are the idiots!

I'm all for people getting out there and riding, but this event was cancelled for a reason.

Other than breaking the law ( I'd imagine riding 2/3/4 abreast ) and putting their own safety at risk in extreme weather, potentially pulling emergency services from elsewhere, not much.

Presuming they are breaking the law I see (2 abreast is not breaking the law, that's another debate)

2 abreast isn't illegal, more than two abreast is.....

Again this has been happening all week, they are actually riding today's race route, therefore most are out there to view the race. They would be stopping into multiple shops/pubs/cafe's along the way.

The BUPA ride normally takes off very early, is that right? Obviously to give the punters time to clear the course before the peloton comes through.
With the BUPA ride now becoming somewhat "unofficial" and the Tour taking off an hour earlier due to the extreme heat, what at the chances of the peloton catching the punters and chaos ensuing?

I got stuck behind the mongrels training last Saturday - I did 25km per hour pretty much the whole way from Gummy to Birdwood. With next to no overtaking along the whole way, the asshats wouldn't even attempt to go single file, despite my horn blaring at them practically the whole time.
I'm surprised I didn't end up on some dash cams website or the news for new levels of road rage

I rode down Gorge Rd on Sunday for the Ride Like Crazy, myself and a mate actually pulled* to the side of the road as we knew there were 10+ cars behind us and they respected the fact that it would have been very dangerous for them to try to pass, every one of them gave us a thankful wave. Some common sense by both parties is all that is needed.
